Why does my dog jumps in fear to the sound of a car horn?

Answer #1

That’s pretty normal. Hug and comfort your dog and in time he/she will realize that it doesn’t scare you and he/she doesn’t need to be scared either.

Answer #2

Hugging and comforting you dog when he/she is scared only nurtures that behaviour. Just act as though nothing has happened, stay calm and assertive.

Answer #3

Think about how loud a car horn is to you, now multiply that times 10 or 20. Dogs have extremely good hearing and can hear things that we as humans usually cant even hear. So any really loud noise like a car horn, is extremely loud to the poor dog whose hearing is more sensative. When it happens just pet your dog to reassure him thats its okay and nothing to be afraid of.

Answer #4

Startled by a piercing noise….it’s that simple.
