Dogs in cars

My little yorkie freaks out every time we get in the car to go somewhere, barking and biting at the door handle and biting my pant leg as I try to get in the car, what can I do besides not take him with, he seems to want to go?

Answer #1

you gotta crate him.

Answer #2

take him on a fun trip a few times, but have him in a pet carrier in the car, but make sure when you do it this way you take him to a dog park, or to see another dog friend, or a friend of yours that he really likes. He’ll associate going somewhere with a positive, and learn to cope with the motions of the vehicle while inside of the carrier. That might get him calmer if you do that several times, then remove the carrier, and see how he does.

Answer #3

I saw this on It’s me or the Dog, Put the dog in the car and make curtains out of towels and keep them up. If the dog is not barking take them down, if the dog barks again put them back up, You will need a passager to help you. She used clothes pins. If he still goes crazy then I would crate him with a towel over the cage. Try taking him to a walk before the car ride. Good luck
