Dalmation jumps on car how do we stop her?

My 9 month old Dalmation keeps on jumping on our cars - right to the top of the roof. She now has starting digging on the car, and it is causing damage to the cars. How do we stop her?

She does it at night, so we don’t see her doing it. If we do catch her we spray her with water and discipline her.

u should try tying her up at night so she doesnt go near the cars and try to teach her new ways to tell wrong from right

Get an electric fence battery and unit (the kind you use for cattle) and wire it up to the car.. that would sort the dog out fast enough.

Course, if you do the above…there’s likely to be a “shocking experience” in store for you as well.

I think this is one of those things you’ll need a friend or family member to help with…You’re going the have to “set him up”…one family member in the car, you or them on the outside of the car…Equipment wise, I’d suggest a prong collar…it’s a hearing aid for dogs, when used in the right circumstances, and used properly, the dog causes he OWN pain…and a leash. The VERY second he begins his jump, allow enough leash for him to get half way up…let HIM run into the prongs himself, or if you have experience with a prong collar, you can give a short jerk…at the same time, you say “NO!!! OFF!!!” very firmly, in your best authoritive voice.

Depending on the dog…if he’s stubborn, or excitable, it will take several “set-ups” to get the message thru…Don’t forget, the second he’s down…PRAISE…PRAISE…PRAISE…If he’s food motivated, a treat speeds up the process. It ain’t going to be done in a day…you’re breaking a habit, and creating a new one…I’d say, do the routine every day for a week…Then a couple times a week…in between, if he “fogets” and jumps up, the person who’s driving up, does the NO OFF, a pushes him off, by opening the car door.

I live in South Africa- in a suburb. We have enclosed yards, and I have a carport that is open where we park our cars - there is no way of enclosing this space in.

In South Africa we can’t let our dogs sleep inside - they are watch dogs - they alert us when there is somebody outside trying to steal our cars or break into our houses.

I will take Phrannies advice.

Why don’t you keep your dog inside at night? Can she get ran over? I don’t let my dogs run loose so they are near my cars? Do you live in the country. Actually when we lived in the country we lost more pets to our country road, because we let our animals run loose thinking it was good for them. That is where I decided none of my animals would run loose again.

But Phrannie is giving you good training adice. Listen to her and get off your hinney and train your dog.
