Why doesnt my kitten I just got wont go in the litter box, I take him all the time and it's clean?

Answer #1

Is he going to the bathroom at all? If not bring him to the vet. My cat has urinary problems and can’t pee if he’s not on special food.

Answer #2

Cats can be funny. First make sure it’s not a bladder problem. Sometimes if they go in other places, it is a sign they are sick. Once that is ruled out, try a couple of these things. Get two boxes. Sometimes they like to pee in one and poop in the other. Sometimes they have issues if it is covered or if it is uncovered (my cat will not go if the box is covered). Try a different type of litter. Try a different type of box. Try a different area, if the cat doesnt feel safe, it’s not going to use the box. So if there’s any loud noises around there, it might not want to go there. If all this fails, talk to the vet.

Answer #3

Well he does go in it but if i dont take him he will go somewhere else?

Answer #4

Oh, try not to keep on taking him to it, because soon he will only rely on you taking him. I don’t really remember how my cat did it, but we just bought a liter box, and i guess he liked the liter and did his stuffs ever since.. wow, now that i think of it, my kitty is smart :O suprising to me since i found out cats brains are basically the size of a marble.

Answer #5

That may or may not change anything. This could be either a sign of the kitten being sick (when they are doing something irregular it often is a sign of something physical being wrong), or being poorly socialized, or again there’s a litter box issue. First thing I would do is try and get a second litter box, and make sure it is covered/uncovered (whatever is different from your current litter box), and try a different location. See if that solves the problem. If it doesnt, when was the last time the cat was at the vet? Because it could be a medical problem that could be fixed easily with a round of antibiotics. Now, if it is neither, there’s a problem with socialization and the kitten didnt learn to use the litter box early on. I’m not too familiar with younger kittens. I’ve had my cat since she was 6 months, and I’ve rescued another cat who was about 6 months. You want to talk to your vet and ask for advice.
