Is it okay with the cops if my mom is okay with me being with a 20 year old?

Answer #1

How old are you if not 19?

Answer #2

If you’re 18.

Answer #3

If you are 19 than no crime no foul. Family codes very by state (what is Statutory in some states can be completely legal in others). If you are above 19 you are above the age of consent. “Being with” any adult is legal. Now if you decided to “be with” a 17 year old you may be breaking a law depending on what state you live in.

Answer #7

Legally, it’s sexual assault (because I can’t use the “R-word” in the response) if you have sex with him, and if he was reported, he’d be charged with the dreaded “r-word” and would probably be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life, so you have to be careful, as if you act irresponsibly, it could destroy both of your lives. In the US, the age of consent is between 16-18, it varies by state. While the moral value is questionable (a 15-year-old dating a 20-year-old is a little sketchy, as you’re still technically a child and he is an adult), if you guys are safe, don’t do anything that could get him arrested and jailed, and are still together when you are 18 and legally an adult, I don’t see a problem with it. You just have to weigh the consequences and risks. Are you willing to hold off on doing certain things so that he doesn’t go to jail and have his life ruined? If you can hold off and just “date” without having to go all the way (I’m 24 and I can tell you, your parents, teachers, etc. are right when they say don’t have sex as a teen, teens are too young to grasp the act and its power and meaning, though they’ll never admit it), then more power to you. But if you guys are becoming sexual and intimate, be prepared for it to bite you in the future, because it could.

Answer #8

By “sexual assault” and “R-word”, I mean the word “Grape” minus the “G.” For some reason, I couldn’t post that word in my response. This site is too touchy.

Answer #9

Yes, it’s a bit gross. I’ve been encountering these types of questions here and other places, and it bothers me. Makes me feel like the younger, less mature party is being taken advantage of.

Answer #10

Ok, 15 is a lot different than 19! You are playing with fire. With your parent’s permission you may be able to marry your love interest after which you would be able to legally have relations with him (laws here vary by state as well). Otherwise he is risking prison, a record, and having to register every place he lives as a sex offender for the rest of his live for having relations with you.

Answer #11

Omg thank you ! <3 this helped a lot. <33333. Thanks for the advice.

Answer #12

Yes I think they are too… I have a friend who’s in high school and is dating a guy in his 20’s. Shouldn’t they be oggling other 20 year olds?
