How do I help my brother from getting obese?

My brother is currently 7 yrs old. He’s a handsome boy but Im afraid that because of his overeating and lack of exercise(all he does all day is TV and computer) that he’ll grow up unhealthy. My parents dont say anything; they just keep feeding and spoiling him.Thats what they did to me too but I grew up &got sick like ulcer and constant vomiting.I dont want that to happen to him.But he’s also a stubborn 7yr old.I cant tell him what to do anymore.Got any good advice.

thats so ironic because as of october my little cousin whose also 7 moved in with us and he has a gained quite a few lbs. i would encourage him with excersise, maybe playing with him, or going for bike rides with him. you can explain to eat slower and he will get filled faster. or encourage healthy habits on him. Suggest an apple instead of chips etc. he most likely looks up to you cause your so much older than him =)

I think in situations like these you can’t really ‘tell’ him what to do. Guidance should come from your parents, but if they aren’t doing anything, engaging in healthy activities and inviting him to come along with you could be a way of doing it. As mentioned, go on bike rides and ask him if he wants to come. After the bike ride, why not make a healthy snack and offer him some? Or perhaps say “I’m going to make some _, would you like me to make some for you too?” That’s a lot less intense than trying to give him tips and stuff like that. He’s only 7, after all.

you’d be surprised how well a 7 year old listen’s especially when he looks up to you its not to intense to ask him to eat slower or suggest an apple.

Tbh its your parents responsibility, its good your concerned but not alot you can do. If anything i would start talking to your parents about it, if they wont listen try slowly throwing away all the cr@p foods in your house. If yout subtle they wont notice, your brother obviously likes eating junk, if he sees you eating healthy it could strongly influence him. Offer to take him to the park, try and put the effory to take him out and be more active. hope this helps.

I have kids (boys) who are 3 and 9 years old. I use to make them eat fruits and raw veggies by gust cutting the stuff, arranging it nicely on a plate and placing it somewhere in their reach while they play. I just put a plate with apple slices and carrot sticks on the table. And then they eat that and don’t ask for chocolate. Positive effect: I also eat fruits instead of sweets.

As to moving instead of couch-potato-ing… I never had that problem. My kids run and jump when I don’t tie them to a chair. But maybe you can convince your family to buy a Nintendo Wii for your birthday… That computer games console where you have to move on order to win the games. My sister-in-law has one of those. You really get sweating and exhausted when playing some of the games. After that, you graciously allow your brother to play with your Wii. But only if he has more fitness points than you have…

Answer #6

you should watch what he eats and makes sure he eats like 5 little meals because my sister, she’s 8 and she eats like 10 times per day and she’s really skinny. I suggest eating more and littlier meals. And for excersize, do you guys walk to school, or is his school far? If not, walk him to school.

Answer #7

well talk to him see what you can do if you he doesnt listen to you than talk to your parents if they dont do anythingabout it than just try to make him excersise or try to make him eat healthy and if he doesnt like some vegetables just mix it in with his food that works thats what they used to do to me!

Answer #8

Just spend more time with him and dont talk about his weight. Most weight issues have nothing to do with eating! Try to listen to him. Good luck:)
