It really depends on who you’re referring to (in the USA at least) if they are prejudiced or not. The problem is, in many media appearances, Bush himself made it seem like Muslims are / were bad people.

Fact is, only ignorant people think Muslims are responsible for the issues. The reality is uneducated men living in poor areas of the world (Ireland, for example, or the US with Timothy McVey) have always been guilty of terrorist attacks.

Another fact, historically, it’s Christians that have murdered & committed the most atrocities of any major religion. Between the crusades, the conquering of the “western world” the incursions globally by the British, the institution of slavery that was backed up by priests for hundreds of years, on & on & on.

I’ve read a few ignorant people even on FunAdvice claim that there is somehow a connection between Islam & terrorism, or hate crimes…I personally know of more hate filled people who claim Christianity living in the “deep south” as they say in the US than any other group I’m familiar with.

As with anything portrayed in the media…the hype is overblown, and hopefully, with learning, understanding, and time, people will start to realize that no matter what religion / background / ethnicity, etc, etc, you are…people are just that: people. :)

We’re not here to evangelize any religion…however, if you’re so inclined, another member setup a group about islam here: http://www.funadvice.com/group/totyfrooty

My hope is, because a lot of Americans know nothing about Islam, that if they learn a little bit, they’ll be less intolerant.

Answer #3

this administration has used fear and ignorance to blur the line between a muslim and a muslim extremist. they are no more alike than a christian and a member of the abortion clinic bombing and doctor murdering army of god extremist. amblessed, yes they all were committed by muslim extremists. I believe the question was “are people blaming muslims…” surely you understand the difference. blaming muslims for the terrorists attacks would be the same as blaming christians for the abortion clinic bombings.

You ask some loaded and heart-felt questions. Good questions, though. I cannot speak for all America. I can speak for myself and I do not blame you or an entire religion for anything. I blame the ones who are responsible. Not their religion or race, their actions. thedude has made some great points. I do not hate you and I do not think you are bad.

Answer #6

Yes, people do blame Muslims. No, it’s not right. You are not a bad people. The above poster listed several events carried out by Muslim extremists. They’re all real. However, S/he forgets to point out all the violent events carried out by extremists of other religions. Everyone makes mistakes, and every religious group carries out violence. That doesn’t mean the religion is wrong, or that all the followers of the religion are bad. Just the people that do the bad things.

I personally, do not blame all Muslims, and I have only met a few people who do.

Answer #7

People Are blaming muslims because they don’t know any better. This is all because of the western media. They target the religion and the middle east in particular.

Answer #8

For some reason people confuse muslim extremists with muslims. Their are extremists in EVERY religion. When people blame muslims for terrorist attacks, its the same as blaming all Christians for robberies because one guy who comitted a robbery happened to be Christian. ANYONE CAN COMMIT A CRIME, REGARDLESS OF THEIR RELIGION

Answer #9

It’s because people are stupid and they stereotype. As far as George W. Bush…I can’t wait until he’s out of that office.

Answer #10

im a muslim and I think the same thing we ( usa ) are blaming a whole religion for what 1 person did.
