Thought I'd drop a reply to your last post. As I mentioned, my own beliefs are, quite simply, complicated. I've read a lot of religious texts, and I truly believe in miracles. However, I've met people from every major religion who seemed to be in touch with a higher power, and I've met many from all religions who seem to be farther from the truth.

However, I'm sure that's not the way it's supposed to be - eg, judging of what is right, by observing other people.

It's just hard That's all. It would take a long, long time for me to explain what I mean, and I can't sit here for the next few weeks to write a novel on the subject.

It'd be great, imho, if other FunAdvice members who were interested in learning about Islam stopped by & joined the group here.

Or, if you know other people that could share some of the basic ideas, that would be good as well (or if you could start with something as simple as the '72 virgin story' as that gets passed around a lot in the western world).

Well, I'd rather not say. My own beliefs are, to put it simply, complicated.

The reason I started reply to your post, here, was simply because the more people understand the basics of other religions (and as Islam is the worlds largest, I believe, with the most followers) it helps to remove ignorance & replace that with understanding.

In an ideal world, the more people in the US learn about the basic teachings of Islam, the less ignorance there will be, and the more understanding, and peace, will result.

I think in the western world (specifically, the US) there are a lot of misconceptions running around about Islam & the Quran.

Anything you share here or in the public area in the religion category would go along way to making people more culturally sensitive & educated, which is a good thing, imho.
