Why aren't more people equating the war money with the firing of teachers and closing of schools?

I rarely see this connection being made…is it simply becuase the labels “state budget” and “federal budget” get applied to these two different types of spending?

I’ve been contacting, monthly, my elected officials to complain…no, spending at the federal level in the pentagon should NOT go up when we’re closing public schools and firing teachers….or am I in some weird minority here? It’s not a partisan thing when you’re pro education and against war now is it? If so…what party should I join as I’m pretty frustrated with the three that are there now (yes, including the tea party as they went along with the patriot act extension crap).

good question, it seems so simple the money that goes into the war daily its crazy not to mention the loss of life, it would help with the national debt to end this so called war,

Answer #2

You rarely see it because the corporate controlled media and military industrial complex do not want us to see it. They have convinced a lot of people to demonize unions and teachers as the cause of our financial woes, and completely ignore the enormous cost of our military.

Answer #3

First, I think its a good idea to remain unaffiliated with any political party. The Tea Party opportunists showed themselves to be part and parcel with the establishment. I am satisfied with my choice for senator, Rand Paul. He has shown himself, thus far, to be a worthy legacy of Ron Paul by advocating massive defense cuts, massive cuts in foreign aid, and the rescission of the Patriot Acts.

I think Jimahl is correct. The controlled media is the propaganda arm of the establishment and have used their soapbox to try and sell us on austerity measures, and that we are somehow responsible for the financial mess we’re in. Apparently they are condescending enough to propose increased spending for the empire at the same time. There is talk today of sending troops into Libya. The rub is that for all of their prognostications, and fearmongering, their proposed measures have failed to ameliorate the problems. The invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq… the Patriot Acts have seen an upsurge in the threat levels for terr0rism. Seizing oil fields in Iraq hasn’t financed the wars, and hasn’t curbed the rise in oil prices. We were told that TARP was critical if we were to head off total financial meltdown. It only made things much worse. We still have nationwide foreclosures with the same mortgages being sold to numerous lending houses. The Stimulus Act hasn’t done much to help. Unemployment is much higher than we are told. These people are proven wrong time after time. They said that because of the financial panics around the turn of the 20th century, we needed a regulating central bank to stabilize the economy. This all before the great depression and the second great depression of which we are currently at the precipice.

In the end, I am not sure that many people aren’t connecting the dots, but are in a stupor as to what to do. Congress doesn’t listen, obviously. TARP was never popular. Obamacare was very unpopular and only those people who were somehow blinded to the corporatist nature of the bill still favor it. What do you do with a rogue congress? If you manage to vote them out, they are immediately replaced with new charlatans. I reckon there are just enough die hard partisans who will never understand the fixed game. If conditions deteriorate enough, people will find common ground in some form of populist movement. Should that day arrive, we must remember all of the lies that we have been told and who told them.

Answer #4

I am sure you consider me one of those die-hard partisans, since I do consider myself a liberal democrat. But I have no illusions that both parties have been infiltrated by big money interests, but not equally so. I still think that the best hope for any kind of populist movement will be from the ideological left. Not necessarily from the corporate controlled Democratic party.

Answer #5

Maybe you fit some of the criteria I mentioned, but I don’t consider you a die-hard, dyed in the wool democrat. Only those people who never question the policies of their party leaders and supporting pundits fit into that category. I hope that more democrats like yourself hold the leadership accountable to represent your ideals, that you won’t adjust your ideals to justify any move they make, which is too often the case regardless of political party.
