Is there an afterlife?

ok im always saying when you die you cant actually die, I look around and say im feeling touching and listening, that cant all go away, so my question is, does anyone no if theres an afterlife?

Answer #1

I believe the account in the Bible and I know that I know because He lives in my heart !

Answer #2

it is my belief that nature recycles everything. your body becomes earth again over time. and your life energy is reused as well. sometimes some of your past personalities get stuck within this energy, and when we are reincarnated we will surround ourselves with things that seem familiar. people who are antique fanatics are a good example, they see an antique sometimes and are inexplicably drawn to it and must own it. this energy is part of all living things, which to me is the explanation of how some dogs can skateboard, some horses can count etc. nature is an amazing place and we only have to look in that direction to find answers to a lot of lifes mysteries. so it is a moot point whether we believe christianity, islam, buddism, hinduism, paganism, or wicca. our afterlife will be a recycling process and we may incarnate as another human and be able to find some of those pieces of our past during a past life regression, or we may return as an ant, a dog, an elephant etc.

Answer #3

We will all know when we die - the believer, if he/she were wrong, they just die, no hereafter - sadly, the non-believer, if he/she dies and was wrong…

You forget… what if you’re worshipping the WRONG god, hmmm?

Answer #4

NDE’s have already been shown to be the mind’s way of dealing with trauma. It’s a bioelectrical response to shock, nothing more.

Answer #5

No one knows if there’s an afterlife since no one has actually come back from the dead.

When we’re dead, we’re dead. The only way we live after death is through memories.

Answer #6

The most interesting scientific research on this, which is all we have, is in the field of near-death experiences. People with NDE’s describe a whole range of memories at times when they were determined to be clinically dead and all brain activity had ceased. In other cases, people with NDE’s describe nothing. While I apparently can’t post links, I can tell you to check out the work of Dr. Sam Parnia who has done clinical experiments, and also David Fontana at Cardiff University.

If the mind does survive physical death, that would make a strong case that there is some form of consciousness when we die, maybe not “life after death” exactly. On the other hand, our understanding of the brain is limited, so just because we don’t observe brain activity during clinical death, doesn’t mean something in the brain isn’t possibly happening.

Answer #7

I agree with winsten…the thing is…your body dies buy your spirit doesnt. I know this sounds crazy but I have plenty of information if you want to know more aobut it. God sent his son Jesus to die for us. He took on all ths ins of the world. now we have a chance to live eternally with him in heaven. After death, we will all spend eternity in heaven or hell…I would be glad to take this conversation further if you would like…just let me know :)

You’ll find out when you die.

Answer #18

We will all know when we die - the believer, if he/she were wrong, they just die, no hereafter - sadly, the non-believer, if he/she dies and was wrong…

Pascal’s Wager does have a few problems though. If the theists (believers) are wrong, you could say they went through their entire lives deceived, while the atheist did not have some of the inhibitions in this lifetime. The atheist’s wager has it’s own logic:

“You should live your life and try to make the world a better place for your being in it, whether or not you believe in God. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent God, he may judge you on your merits coupled with your commitments, and not just on whether or not you believed in him.”

Also, the wager does not take into account the method of belief. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe in God, but take a very different road in their overall belief system than the rest of Christianity and even use a different Bible translation. The two do not accomodate each other; if the Christian is right, the Jehovah’s Witness is wrong and vice versa. Same with Muslims, Hindus, etc.

Just some food for thought.

Answer #19

The whole purpose of the bible, is to prepare us for that afterlife, that you speak of. We are in school down here, and this life is very temporary, when we leave here, we are going into eternity. Forever. This life is but a vapor. And then it is over. Ask anyone in the nursing home. They will tell you, that life is short… very short indeed. And we never know when our time is up. We are not promised to live any certain amt. of time. 70 years is normal. Some more, some less. But, what ever we have, passes very quickly. When one is young, they have the feeling that they will live forever. But, soon, things come along to make a dent in that thinking, and we face the reality, that we are not born to live forever. When that realization comes to us, we are then open to the truth. Or if we have a child, something about seeing a brand new life, that we helped to create, that is truly a part of us, has our features, our way of doing things, our attitude, our eye, the shape of our nose.. etc. brings a very real, reality check. We suddenly realize that this life is more than just about us.That it has secrets that we would do well to tap into. And the wonderful thing is, that if we do come to believe in God, he offers us eternity with him. That is worth living for.

Answer #20

I like a lot of your thoughts there, Silverwings. Reality is much bigger than we normally imagine. We can catch a glimpse of eternity in the things you mention, and in other things too like the beauty of nature. And like you, I believe that God has more than just ‘glimpses’ for us - He is offering us life with Him both here and now, and in eternity. So that’s my answer to the question - yes, I believe there is an afterlife.

Answer #21

We will all know when we die - the believer, if he/she were wrong, they just die, no hereafter - sadly, the non-believer, if he/she dies and was wrong…
