To do this you have to change the mixed numbers back into improper fractions. You multiply the denominator by the whole number, and then add the numerator. Afterwards, you would simply subtract add, multiply and divide as you would regularly. Where you would simply add or subtract the numerators. When multiplying you'd multiply the numerator by numerator, and when dividing, flip the second fraction around and then multiply. So for example the two fractions 2 1/2, 1 1/3 2 1/2+ 1 1/3= 5/2 + 4/3= 15/6 + 8/6= 23/6
Or subtraction 2 1/2 - 1 1/3= 5/2 - 4/3= 15/6 - 8/6= 7/6
Or multiplication: 2 1/2 x 1 1/3= 5/2 x 4/3= 20/6
Dividing: 2 1/2 divide 1 1/3= 5/2 divide 4/3= 5/2 x 3/4= 15/8
adding and subtracting is easy it is just like any other number 3 1/4- 1 1/8 = 2 1/8 multiplying you have to chang it into an improper fraction and multiply. to divide you need to change them to an improper fraction and switch the second denominator and numerator around then multiply.
We have a How To for that: http://www.funadvice.com/howto/solve_fractions
if you are multiplying its 5 . 6 = 30 2 5 = 10 which would be 3
slow down,
once a person converts them whats next????
