abused coworker

I have a younger female co worker who got beaten over the weekend. Her boyfriend and the father of 1 (of 2) of her kids, took an elbow to her neck and she can barely move it now. I was the only person she told… and it bothers me that she had to go through that. She did not call the cops. She is afraid that he might come after her worse than that.

What do I do?

Well, that is a tough situation. Someone that is abused can be very hard to convince to get help and he probably will come after her (they usually do). I can only say what I would do in that situation - I would call the police. Where I live, we have a non-emergency line, or you can call the local police department- tell them what happened and find out what you can do. They can say they heard a noise complaint from the neighbors and are following up with it. They are trained to deal with these type of situations. When I was in an abusive situation- they sent over a ‘mediator’ that worked for the police department and he discussed my options with me. I hope she is strong enough to get herself out of that situation- especially for the sake of her children! that is really tough for them to see/hear.

That is rough,when her family is away,take her to her home and have her pack as much clothes as she can and take her to live with you until she’s comfortable enough to come forward to the police and file an abuse report,comfort her in her time of need until she can function right and keep her far away from them as possible. No woman or women deserve to be abused in any way or form. Take her into your home and just keep her there until she is ready to notify the authorities.
