Has anyone had gastric bypass surgery?

I’m thinking about asking my mom if I can get gastric bypass. I’m 17 ( will be 18 in about 60 days) and I weigh 320ish pounds. I’ve tried everything else to lose weight and now I feel this is the only way I can truly lose weight and be happy, finally. Has anyone had this? If so, did it work for you? How fast do you lose the weight? And if possible could I get one good link where I could learn more? The ones I’ve been on are REALLY confusing. THank ya’ll!! How can I ask her?

My sister-in-law had gastric bypass and it didn’t go so well for her.

After her surgery her stomach kept closing up requiring her to have repeat surgeries.

She missed so much work due to these complications that she lost her job.

There were few foods she could keep down post-op and she vomited so much that she weakened her teeth. Then after her surgery while still intubated she broke most of her teeth when she struggled coming out of anesthesia and now has to wear dentures.

She has been under anesthesia so much (every month for a while) that she lost her short term memory, can’t work, and is now on disability. She is in constant pain and due to her poor short term memory she has been in several car accidents after accidentally overdosing on her pain meds.

The real kicker is after all of that she has managed to stretch her stomach out and has managed to eat enough to become overweight again (though admittedly not as obese as she was before surgery).

I know some people have much better outcomes than my SIL but considering what happened to her I have to consider gastric bypass surgery the last thing to try after everything else fails. It ruined her life.

my mom had the surgerry two years ago she was about 320lbs…she had high blood pressure…now she is about 150 lbs her high blood pressure is gone and she is healthier than ever I think it iz a good idea…it will help with a lot of health issues

I [m not sure what the name of the surgery was, but, a friend had it some years ago, and nearly died. I suppose that they have improved it by now, but, I would proceed with caution, asking lots of questions… first…
