yes the egyptians had makeup- small vessels containing a white lead based makeup have been found by archeologists in tombs. i believe that the sumerians also had makeup. so it stretches back at least 5000 years or more. i believe that some of the cro magnon tribes also covered their faces with mud red ochre or colored animal fat as evidenced by early cave paintings- so i am sure that their holy men were in charge of their primitive cosmetology- which would take things back tens of thousands of years.
