Can I trust what I read in Witchcraft books?

Okie so here’s the deal, I really want to get into witchcraft. It has always interested me, I started finding out about it like a year ago. Well I went to the library to get some books about this subject, including the history behind it, understand Wicca, and stuff like that. Well my question is, Can I trust the books?. Do you think what the information it says is right?

Answer #1

what you need to do, is find a teacher, yes you can read books and practice the craft, but ateacher is someone who guides you through this, someone with knowledge and understanding. wicca or witchcraft can be highly dangerous, you could catch yourself conjuring up the wrong spirits, which could lead to death, or hospitalisation, you could also make your home quite unsafe. you cannot practice the harder stuff until you have learnt the basics, such as, meditation, different herbs, which is sometimes called alchemy, the defence part of witchcraft..and so on. the history of witchcraft is long long, when it first came to exist there was no recordence of it.

hope this helped a bit..\

seraya.

wicca is an earth based religion that worships the Gods and Goddess as well as the cycles of the earth and balance. except good and evil we believe that these are man made concepts and don’t exist in nature . wiccans do use magic but its not necessary. wicca is a religion witchcraft is the use of magick. We believe in no harm done meaning we do nothing magick or otherwise with the intent of harm. we also believe in the rule of 3 which means that what ever you do ,good or bad with magick or not , comes back to you x3. this is also known as Karma. Anyone that tells you they can escape or stop the rule of 3 or karma is lying to you and themselves. We don’t follow any doctrine like the bible but there is somethings that a good wiccan should know like: the wiccan rede, 13 goals, general beliefs, charge of the god and the charge of the goddess… we have 8 sabot a year that are in tune with the cycles of the earth such as the solaces, and equinox. these focus on the God while the esabots new and or full moons, focus on the Goddess. We use tools like: athames or ritual knifes, wands, pentacles, ect.. to draw and direct energy. these are only tools and a representation of energy. since we as humans cant hold pure energy these along with symbols help us use energies. there are many different types of wiccans, Traditional, eceletic, solitary, coven, traditional follow usually in a coven strict rules such as Alexandrian or Gardener eceletic is one that doesn’t follow any strict coven rules they find what works for them and Incorporated that and kinda make there own magic. a solitary works usuallyy alone as apposed to a coven that works together.

My Book of shadows is pretty extensive form the things I mentioned to herb and incense guide, astrological calender, spells divination tarot, runes, omens, palm reading, astronomy, experiences, writings, dream journal, what I call an archive sections with letters from people in my past, a news paper article with my dad being a hero in it and a auto bio form my great great uncle. and more. its took me a long time to develop it. it got so big I had to but it in a 100CD case and still had to put some of it into a separate binder. your book of shadows could be a simple note book to a normal binder, I keep all the papers in paper protectors to preserve them Most of all we don’t worship Satan or put hexes on people. we are a peaceful people. anymore questions fun-mail me blessed be

I feel that it depends on which books you read. Do not get books that spell it like Magic… look for the books spelling it as Magick. To me that makes a big difference. My favorite author is Ravenwolf. She has so many helpful books out there. However in Wicca and Paganism it is important to find your own path and how you feel is right for you. That is what drew me to these religions. You can also find Wiccan friends in your area to help you find your path. Good luck and Blessed Be.

Does it not matter to you that the bible forbids the practicing of witchcraft?

Answer #10

Yes most of the information in the books is right, I believe it anyways.

There are many different types of Witchcraft, you must be specific in what you ask. Here is the truth behind Wicca: During the 20th century interest in witchcraft in English-speaking and European countries began to increase, inspired particularly by Margaret Murray’s theory of a pan-European witch-cult originally published in 1921, since discredited by further careful historical research. Interest was intensified, however, by Gerald Gardner’s claim in 1954 in Witchcraft Today that a form of witchcraft still existed in England. The truth of Gardner’s claim is now disputed too, with different historians offering evidence for or against the religion’s existence prior to Gardner.

The Wicca that Gardner initially taught was a witchcraft religion having a lot in common with Margaret Murray’s hypothetically posited cult of the 1920s. Indeed Murray wrote an introduction to Gardner’s Witchcraft Today, in effect putting her stamp of approval on it. Wicca is now practiced as a religion of an initiatory secret society nature with positive ethical principles, organised into autonomous covens and led by a High Priesthood. There is also a large “Eclectic Wiccan” movement of individuals and groups who share key Wiccan beliefs but have no initiatory connection or affiliation with traditional Wicca. Wiccan writings and ritual show borrowings from a number of sources including 19th and 20th century ceremonial magic, the medieval grimoire known as the Key of Solomon, Aleister Crowley’s Ordo Templi Orientis and pre-Christian religions. Both men and women are equally termed “witches.” They practice a form of duotheistic universalism.

Since Gardner’s death in 1964 the Wicca that he claimed he was initiated into has attracted many initiates, becoming the largest of the various witchcraft traditions in the Western world, and has influenced other Neopagan and occult movements. In particular it has inspired a large movement of Eclectic Wiccans, who are not initiated into the original lineage but have adopted some of the practices and beliefs of the religion, most notably the “Rule of Three”.

I myself am a Traditionlist: Across the ages, the magical practices of British Traditional Witchcraft, or “Trad Witchcraft,” have been as important to the Trad Witch as breathing air. Magic is seen as simply another aspect of Nature, an added dimension of spiritual religious existence. Trad Witchcraft is the authentic withcraft of old Britain and is not Wicca, which dates from the early 195o’s.

The British Traditional Witch has always been highly spiritual . We view the first cause, or “God”, as the universal consciousness that is evident in the world that surrounds us. In essence, Nature is the the very same as God. Therefore, Nature is divine.

Magic itself is nothing more than the utilization of the essence of Nature, forces of the first cause, of “God”, to alter or change apparent reality to suit the goals intended by the Traditional Witch. Thus, magic is, when directed correctly, a sacred act, comparible to prayer, which furthers positive change witnin the individual, their family, community, and for the planet. It is an intended force for change, of constructive change. It can be used for any of the following positive purposes:

  • For personal improvement and change.

  • To protect oneself and family.

  • To improve life and the lives of their family.

  • To heal themselves and to heal others.

  • To aid in obtaining a intended goal.

  • To remove barriers and impediments.

  • To create openings or new circumstances.

The magical arts can be a primary force for good in our lives, if we are willing to learn how to use it precisely. Magical outcome is never accidental. Magic is reflective of the belief that Nature unfolds in an orderly manner, and the events in this sequence can be known. With this information, it is possible to control or manipulate the energy surrounding these events in a way that will effect and alter outcome.

Magic, to most people, seems rather mysterious, something strange and supernatural. Nevertheless, the magical arts are something quite different. For, rather than being something unknowable, magic is within the the world of Nature, and touches our very existence on both the spiritual and physical planes.

The spellcraft of Traditional Magic is especially potent because the Trad Witch is trained in the use of techniques that gives power to the very core of magic. While these techniques are commonly thought of as Asian, they actually have been an essential part of British magic for over a thousand years, if not longer. The terms commonly used for these techniques today, “meditation” and “visualization,” may not be the same terms used our history, but the terms do not matter. The substance of what is taught does matter.

A final thought: British Traditional Witches subscribe to an very old principle of proper conduct called the “Law of Return.” This is reflective of a law in physics which states that “every action generates an equal and opposite reaction.” Accordingly, every Traditional Witch knows full well that when an action is taken or a magical spell is sent, the energy of that action or spell will eventually return to the sender.

Make no mistake: What goes around, comes around. Magic can be a vibrant force that can highly add to your quality of life, but only if you use it wisely.

“Does it not matter to you that the bible forbids the practicing of witchcraft?” NO!!! Go pester someone else with your candy coated fables!

Witch Craft, craft of the occult. Being a witch is basically just one who practices magick. Wicca is a new aged religion supposedly based of ancient ways which mostly practices white magick, supposedly based of the Celtic & Druidic practices. Unlike Wiccans witches aren’t really bound by the rede, though they still respect the 3/10 fold law(which ever one they believe in) so not too many will practices harmful magick. WitchCraft acually goes back to Paleolithic times(which is believed to of gone back to cavemen) but of coarse was called differently then.

DON’T always believe in books, you have to be careful of, well, hack like under water said. Raven Wolf IS indeed one of them.

A good book(to get a basic) is Witches from the Mystery Library.
