Why do so many people disapprove of my Religion?

I’m 16 years old and I was raised as one of Jehovah’s witnesses… No I’m not brain washed and no I’m not part of a cult and no being one of Jehovah’s whiteness is not being part of a sects… Yet why do people disapprove of my religion more then any other?

Answer #1

Hi,

I think people disapprove of it because they don’t know about it, and therefore are afraid of it. People get afraid of things they don’t understand or are familiar with.

I would just try to educate people about the religion, and let them know that it’s ok to ask questions. The more you educate, the more tolerance will happen.

Answer #2

I personally don’t have a problem with JWs. Your religion is different from mine and that’s that. You ask why so many people disapprove of your religion. If you are a proud JW, it shouldn’t matter what other people think, right?

Apparently it bothers you that others seem disappointed when you tell them. Maybe it’s best that you not bring it up at all. I’m not saying this is the case, but do you try to educate them on your religion without them asking first? Maybe you bring it up and they become uncomfortable. But guess what? This is not just JWs, just ask my friend Angie. She once invited a couple of Mormon missionaries into her home and couldn’t get rid of them even after she said she did not plan on converting! Like I said, I don’t know if you are discussing it or if it just comes up by passing conversation. You wanted to know why they “disapprove” and I’m just providing a possible explanation.

Hope that helps.

Hey there.

People disapprove of every religion. If you want to know specifically about your religion- well, there are quite a few reasons.

*144,000 anointed ones. Its completely taken out of context AND taken way too literal. If you want to take revelation 7 literally (as the JW religion has), it will basically be summarized as, “144,000 Jewish male virgins taken from a square shapen earth are now in heaven worshipping a sheep”

*As elone stated, your bible version is terribly translated and many believe the Watchtower purposely changes it to conform with your beliefs. The name “Jehovah” itself is a name a Catholic monk accidentally misinterpreted. If you were to ask a bible scholar, he/she will tell you “Jehovah” is very unlikely to be the name of God.

*Many do not feel correct with the way you treat non-JWs or former JWs: Disfellowshipping and treating us (non-JWs) as inferior (Does the word “Goat” ring a bell?)

There are more reasons (blood transfusions, flag salute, armaggedon date being changed an abundant of times…) but I think you understand why the JWs haven’t made a good impression. Again, dont take it personally, every religion is criticized- I’m just pointing out examples from a non-JW perspective.

God Bless

Impendere: Unfortunately child molestation does happen no matter where you care to look. However you are mistaken with the way JW deal with it. It is not covered up. They help in anyway to aid the authorities and the offender is outcast.

I found no deception in their practices, there are a few who, I believe are over zealous but I believe that has more to do with their life prior to becoming a JW.

Relating their view toward blood transfusions, the Bible clearly states to pour the blood of a living being on the ground and cover it up. You are not to partake in blood in anyway. The last I knew they do allow blood substitutes like interferon.

I do disagree with whom they say will be saved. I believe it is much broader than their view.

You are correct about John 1: 1. Thank you I never noticed that before.

Their version of the Bible is not conducive to understanding, I agree. However, during the more than one year that I spent studying with them, they never had a problem with me using another version of the Bible for clarity. In fact the couple I studied with enjoyed hearing clarity.

They do not believe in the Trinity. Only Jehovah and Jesus.

Answer #5

Do JW deny that Jesus is the Christ.?

Do they deny that Jesus is God in the flesh like He said He is in John chap:1, and that He is NOT a created being, and that He(Jesus) made everything and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Have they still believe that Jesus is the created arch-angel Michaels’ brother.

Do JW still believe that In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word was “A” God - John 1:1. (They added an “A” making Jesus a false god since there is only one true God.

Do JW still insist that Gifts Of The Spirit such as speaking in tongue is of the devil?

Does JW doctrine still change like the wind, insisting confusion and not understanding Scripture?

Do they still believe that the Holy Spirit is only God’s “active force” and not the 3rd person in the GodHead or Holy Trinity?

If any of these answers are yes, that could be the problem.

We must be very careful of the religious group we choose to follow. Your soul is at stake, and would be a terrible thing to loose. Keep in mind that JESUS IS LORD…Who??? JESUS

Once some JWs greatly offended my ex-wife. We were living in an appartment and some door-to-door JWs knocked. When we answered They spoke Spanish to us and when they discovered that we didn’t speak Spanish they said that they were there to speak with Hispanics and wished us a good day. After they left some of my neighbors told us that they were invited to Spanish language services at the Kingdom Hall and showed us some of the materials they left which were rabidly anti-Catholic. I used to work with a JW who seemed like a nice guy but it didn’t take much to get him to go off on a anti-Catholic diatribe. If it is the usual practice of JWs to attack the world’s largest church than it shouldn’t suprise them that a lot of people don’t like JWs. Sometimes what you sow is what you reap.

I remember when I was a lad that JWs said that the world was going to end on a specific date. The date came and went and when the world didn’t end they said that they found their error and then the world was supposed to end in 1984 yet we are all still here. This went a long way to discredit the church in a lot of people’s eyes.

The other place I hear of JWs is from my wife who is a nurse. At the hospital where she works they do their best to accomodate JWs wishes for no blood transfusions. Sometimes they are in the tough situation where a child will die without a transfusion but the JW parents will not permit it so they have to get a court order to save the child’s life. I find it hard to accept the idea that it is better to let a child die when they can be easily saved.

Answer #7

Hey partner. All I can tell you is do you and not be afraid of what everyone else thinks of your religion beliefs. Eventhough I know at your age it is hard because your peers can be mean but you have to represent for your religion in the most positive way and be educated on your religion so that people may start to take a more positive look at what religion you practice and may want to learn more about it. There’s good people and bad people in everyone’s religion. You have to be the one that represents your religion in true fashion.

Answer #8

u know somtimes I hate when people talk about jw’s so much cause im a proud jw I go to convention. you know once you become 1 you will see how good every1 is we dont cus like christians and I think christanity is fake because christanity is mixed with the pagons

Answer #9

I think people just get annoyed with them coming to our doors and bugging us… a religion os not something that should be sold on a door step… do you understand now?

Answer #10

I think it’s because it’s the only religion which (for a lack of a better word) advertises the religion like a door-to-door salesman would advertise some new windows.

Answer #11

Most people havent read the Bible and dont understand where they are coming from.

Everyone is aware that their rules are very strict with almost zero tolerance for not following them.

The witnesses tell people unapologetically that the religion taught to them by their parents is a false religion; that means mom and dad lied to you. If they love and respect their parents, people dont want to hear that.

Almost everyone knows of someone that is or has been disfellowshipped; nobody likes to be rejected.

I studied with them for over a year and still have a good standing with ‘some’ of them. If you want, I will send you an email stating the reasons I dont partake. I dont think it is appropriate to put them here.

Answer #12

I wouldn’t say more than any other. I know some people with some pretty different religiouse practices and religions and people make much more fun of. but everyone is different and that’s why people talk about others. it will always happin. haters are everywhere. follow what you believe and try not to worry to much about what other people have to say.

Answer #13

JWs have a clean-cut, family-friendly image but behind this facade is an organization that insists on covering up the many instances of child molestation that occur in their religion. (See MSNBC Nightly News http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21917798/.)

JWs rely on their squeaky-clean image to attract new recruits, and any publicity regarding their child molestation problem would make bringing new people into their cult very difficult.

As a result of this monstrous cover-up over 30 years, cases are now coming to court and JW victims are being awarded millions of dollars in compensation against the Watchtower Society (JW’s corporate headquarters), all done in secret, to protect Watchtower’s ‘clean reputation’. They are selling properties in Brooklyn, NY by the handful to fund these compensation payouts.

Sorry to disagree with you, deathnparadise, but JWs are a cult, and a highly dangerous one at that.

The accepted definition of a cult is any organization that uses deceptive practices to recruit new followers. I’m not saying that individual JWs intend to be deceptive: they are just as deceived as those to whom they ‘preach’. The problem lies at the very heart of their organization, their Governing Body, which has lied for years to both members and non-members.

What does their Governing Body tell lies about? A few examples:

  • Child abuse. The Watchtower leaders publicly claim they do not have a child abuse problem within their organization. Yet they know on their computers at their Patterson campus (upstate NY) they have a database of around 24,000 child abuse cases, the majority of which they refuse to report to the police.

  • Blood transfusions. They lyingly exaggerate the dangers of blood transfusions, and criminally trivialise the risks of their recommended ‘non-blood medical management’. They admitted in an Awake! magazine that thousands of children have died from not taking blood transfusions.

  • Who will be saved? At their meetings JWs are taught that only those “serving Jehovah” (I.e. JWs) will survive Armageddon and be saved into the “New System”. Yet if a non-Witness accuses them of believing “only JWs will be saved”, they are taught to reply that “only Jehovah can read people’s hearts and He will decide who will be saved”.

  • Leaving the organization. When a new recruit joins their religion, he or she is not told that in future if they ever decide they can no longer conscientiously remain a JW and choose to leave, they will be slandered and told they’re leaving because they are secretly sinning or are weak in faith, and they are an apostate and all their old JW friends and family will no longer be allowed to talk to them. This has proved particularly tragic where kids as young as 12-years-old have been baptized as JWs, then decide to leave in their mid-teens, and have been kicked out the family home age 16.

That’s sufficient examples for now.

So, do people disapprove of your religion? You bet, and the more they know about it, the more strongly they disapprove.

Take care deathnparadise, and keep thinking for yourself! Don’t accept a word I say as true: check out the evidence on the internet for yourself, there’s loads of it out there. That’s why Watchtower leaders so strongly discourage university: they’re terrified of young JWs learning to think properly, because then they’ll be able to see through the lies. That’s why so many young JWs leave the religion.

Good luck, and keep asking questions!

Answer #14

Because there is no truth in it. Without saying that Jesus is Lord, Our Heavenly Father, and He is the Holy Spirit, there is no real hope. They try to live out the commandments forgetting about , “by grace you have been saved through faith.” Not a matter of works, should anyone boast, but boast in the Lord who gives the free gift of eternal life just for the asking.

Make more people Christian Make people more Christian…one is not more important than the other!

Answer #15

Jehovah’s whiteness tend to force their religion onto people…

Answer #18

I think it’s because they dislike the ones who come to their door a bug them.

Answer #19

I had a friend who was a JW in high school. His Mom never let him go to parties, never let him watch rated are movies, etc. I felt so bad for him, I suppose that made start to think a lot of sterotypical thoughts on JW.
