Why are 3 bedroom houses the most popular size?

Why are 3 bedroom houses the most popular size? It seems like they are from looking around, we’re in a three bedroom house ourselves that we’re renting. Is it because of the average family size, or something else?

Dear Steve, While shopping for out house we were curious about this also. It seems that families are much smaller these days and I wondered why the 3 bedrooms sold first. The Realtor did say that several people she spoke with wanted the extra room as an office or computer room. Some wanted a quest room for company. We do have 3 bedrooms in our home upstairs and one down. We use one for ourselves, one is a guest room and the other is our office. Sue

One for the owner(s)-master, one for a child and one for an office. OR one master, an office, and a guest room. I dont like 3 bedrooms I like 4+. Personal opinion
