There are many home remedies that can get rid of the fungus causing the athlete's foot. You can make a vinegar foot soak by combining roughly roughly 1 part white household vinegar to 4 parts water, or use dilute Clorox baths or soaks (approximately ¼ cup household Clorox bleach in one bathtub of water).
There are also different over the counter anti-fungal products available today. One of the most effective I found so far is Fungusil which is a liquid treatment that can also be used to ward off toenail fungus.

Use Oil of Oregano (P73) get it at your health or vitamin store. It has no side effects. It has many other uses for the body. Google it.
They sell spray pretty much anywhere to get rid of itch and help prevent it.
Athlete's foot is a fungus. Many over the counter anti fungal creams help.
