What's the black stuff under my cat chin?

My cat has flaky black stuff under his chin .. what is this? and what can I do to make it go away?

Try just washing it with warm water… If it doesn’t go away maybe just call a vet and ask if there is something else you can do… I used to work at a shelter and they had us use hydrocortisone (not sure how to spell it) cream on a lot of the animals

The best thing to do is go to a vet if you are concerned. but it is hard for cats to clean under their chin, it might just be dried dirt or something…
