What is this, a burn?

Yeserday I had some ice. I kept my finger on the ice for a while and soon my finger started to hurt, afterwards it fealt numb and still hurt. When it wasn’t numb anymore it hurt as if I had touched the oven. Today it hurts if it gets touched and is a little bit red with what looks like slightly white spots under the skin, what is this?

Yeah it sounds like frost bite. Hopefully you will recover but if the pain doesn’t go away you should see a doctor. Frost bite is caused because the body cuts off blood flow to areas that are exposed to extreme cold for too long in order to prevent your blood and in turn, internal organs from getting cool. When blood supply is cut off for too long, the tissue dies, which is where the numbness came from. Your body would prefer to sacrifice a finger, nose, ear, or even a leg, than risk damaging any internal organs that are needed to survive. Hopefully the damaged area was small enough that surrounding tissue can fill it in..

Don’t do that again. Additionally, if the water in your cells freezes (most of your cellular weight is from water) it destroys many of the structures in cells.

Just remember cold stuff can be just as dengerous as hot stuff.
