Burn yourself bad enough on the outside, will it burn your inside?

Ok, this might sound a little weird but I was just wondering. If you burn yourself bad enough on the outside, will it burn your inside? I know that sounds stupid but I’m not talking about, like, getting trapped in a fire or anything. My friend fell asleep with a hot water bottle under her belly and when she woke up where the bottle was was a huge, blood red spot on her stomach. It finally faded away after 4 hours! Seriously. So I guess, like, not from fire, but from boilng, scalding water can it burn your insides? Like, under your skin.

Hi,

Sure, it can. That’s why we have varying degrees of burning. The deeper the burn, the worse off the degree (ie. 3rd degree burns are the worst).

Your friend will probably be fine.
