What/ Is it true smoking kills your tastebuds?

I once was told that smoking kills your taste buds

if this is true then do you regain your taste buds when you stop smoking? and why does smoking do this? and how bad can it get?

Answer #1

I had actually quit for two years. I never really noticed a difference. Perhaps I just wasn’t that observant, or maybe it does not effect everyone in that manner.

Answer #2

Food tastes a lot better when you stop smoking so it may be that your taste buds were just being blocked by the nasty taste of cigs or whatever was being smoked.

Answer #3

I have been smoking for about 11 years. My palate seems to be somewhat refined. I can easily pick out ingredients of dishes just by tasting them and often recreate them at home. I am in no way saying that smoking does not effect taste buds, however if it does I have yet to notice.

Answer #4

I’ve not smoked for neally 7 weeks now and I can tell you from my experiance that my taste buds are better now than when I was a smoker… everything tastes so much better and my sence of smell is better now too

I was a smoker for around 17 years

Answer #5

im just asking as a general question and I’m only curious about that rumor I heard because it seems rather odd

Answer #6

Smoking usually causes permanent damage. And it not only damages your taste buds, but it’ll make you have horrible teeth, bad breath, bad skin, hair and nails, several breathing issues and it may lead to more serious illnesses. Sorry dear, but smoking just isn’t worth the hassle.

Answer #7

Eventually if you do it enough, yes. It will eventually kill your voice making it sound horrible depending how much you smoke, as well as lead to cancer, breathing problems, and so much more. My uncle died from lung cancer from smoking, and I knew 2 more people who had a lot of problems caused by smoking before they eventually passed. Don’t get caught up in that lethal addiction. I don’t want to have to attend another funeral thanks to cigarettes. Besides, You’re so much better than that 1_~

Answer #8

it does affect your smell and taste but it dont kill them

Answer #9

Smoking is disgusting!! (just had to add that opinion in here) :)
