What is going on with my one yr old dog, she just got aggresive?
We just got her a large bone and she loves it. The family cat came over to see her and she growled and jumped at him. She has never done this so I went over to correct her and get the bone and she went to bite me and growled. She even did it to my husband. She has never done this. I have always been able to take bones and food away before. I am now scared it will happen again.
thanks she was never protective over food she even brings me her other bones. and place them on my lap. it was on of the real big ones.
Show her who’s boss! When she has a bone, distract her then take away the bone, if she does not growl give it back and say, “Good Girl!” When she growls put it somewhere where she can’t get it! She’ll learn fast, trust me!!!
You should have placed your foot on the bone before reaching down to take it. Shoes on, of course, incase she might bite…tho, she probably woudn’t have gone that far. Once you’ve placed your foot on the bone, in a dogs eyes…YOU now own that bone.
She must really like this bone (if she’s willing to protect it), so don’t give her anymore of those…and then practice practice practice setting her food down, and picking it up once for every meal. You don’t want her to think she got away with this.
Dogs will protect their food from other animals…the cat probably will give her wide berth.
