What are some good ways to relieve unbearable migraines?

Does anyone know any good ways to help relieve an unbearable migraines I seem to be getting them a lot lately, I used to have them chronic, but now they are starting up again and the only thing I am able to do when they happen is take a pain killer and throw a cold pack over my eyes. But does anyone have any suggestions to keep them away or help relieve the pain when they happen other than my own methods, and showers only hurt worse. Help?

Answer #1

I usually go in a dark room with little light, make sure there is some kind of light but not too much, Get a cold wash cloth and put it on the back of your neck. That usually helps for me but when they get really bad and last for over a month go talk to your doctor and there is a shot you can get in your back that relieves the pain. Its painful but I think migraines are worse. Good Luck

sumatriptan succinate otherwise known as imitrex is a good medication to talk to your doctor about. you should definitely consult a neurologist and speak with them about your migraines asap.

Answer #3

First of all, I suggest getting them checked out by a doctor. If nothing is wrong I.e. no problems with your brain then follow the advice that is given to you.

I have a friend that suffers from them and if she skips a meal then she starts getting them.

I suggest that you make sure that your sugar levels stay constant by eating 6 small HEALTHY meals daily, that should help keep them away.

Also exercise lightly to help relieve stress and improve your overall health. That should also help for your migraines.

Then some people suggest that you strengthen your core (back/stomach). That will improve your posture and COULD help you with the migraines.

Other than that, I have no other advice than to try over the counter pain medication and to lie in a dark room.

when I had migraines I used to lie down in a dark room until my eyes refocused and I stopped being sick my Dr sent me to the Migraine Clinic they made me make notes to try to find my triggers too much sleep, not enough sleep, cheese, chocolate, chinese food and then she worked out what my one was, mine was chocolate, no migraines since

Answer #5

Isuffer from them as well, and I found that researching it and knowing about it and what sparks one helped a lot. Certain foods and certain ctivities may trigger it… like for me, Aged chese and Pine nuts make it the worst imaginable. Try the things above. If you still have them afterwards, you need to see a doctor. You may need an MRI where they can see if you have something wrong. (They found a cyst on my results) so you really need to get that checked.

Best of luck

same problem. what I do is I take ice and put it on the back of my neck and I lay in a dark room. buut I also take excedrine migrane. it’s over the counter and it helps almost instantly

Answer #7

I have the same problem, I usually lie down in a dark room, close my eyes and try to imagine a blank page and just keep focussing on it. I sometimes try and go to sleep and when I wake up it’s usually gone but the quickes way to get over it for me is to throw up but that’s only a last resort cause it isnt too nicee.
