I get migraines also, and I find once the pain starts, pain medication wont help. The only thing that works for me at that point are beta blockers etc prescibed by a doctor. The first part of a migraine for me involves neurological symptoms before the pain starts, and if I take anti-inflammatories at this point I dont actually get a headache.

Answer #5

For me the most important thing is time. As soon as I think I am getting a migraine I take something for it. Ibuprophen works fine for me if I take it quickly enough. By the time it is bad nothing seems to help. Your best bet is prevention. Try to figure out what triggers your migraines so you can avoid triggering one. A headache diary can help. Every time you get a migraine write down everything about events preceding your migraine. This can make it easier to spot patterns.
