I'm hypoglycemic, can I use hormonal birth control? And if not, what are my options? I'd really like to get myself on my birth control so it's not just my boyfriend being in charge of the birth control. And I am bit worried with just using condoms.
well people who are diabetic can encounter problems with oestragen and progesterone contraception methods but you said you are hypoglycemic which is low blood sugar so it may be ok. I have never heard of someone with low blood sugars having problem. I would talk to your doctor though
Barrier methods are not entirely effective but I would like to point out, hormonal methods are not either so its best not to just rely on one method of birth control. Condoms also provide the best protection from STIs. Diaphragms when used correctly are about 90% effective and they can be used with condoms to increase this
Honestly the barrier methods for women are not entirely effective (so you're looking at 60% effective or so, not a risk I'd take) so you'd probably need to use a condom anyways (thus defeating the purpose). The other option is the copper IUD. Why dont you consult with your doctor?
