What do you think of unemployment and how they have extended unemployment benefits?

We have a few companies we own, and what I have seen personally is that people would rather draw the unemployment check, than work. We have tried to interview people, that have told us they do want a job, they just have to send their resume out to keep getting their unemployment. I think this kind of thinking suck for one, and my next step is to turn them in to the unemployment office. What is your opinion on this?

Answer #1

I would definitely turn them in - it’s people like that who make things more difficult for the people who actually need the help. I think the extended EI is necessary, as the economy is not at it’s peak, but people are abusing it, and they need to be stopped.

Answer #2

I agree, this hurts the system as a whole and part of the reason they now have to raise my retirement age to sixty nine.

Answer #3

The more things you give to people for free the less responsibility they take for themselves and the more dependent they become.

Answer #4

Very true, and I hate lazy people.

Answer #5

I agree with Colleen. Unemployment isnt supposed to be your excuse to be lazy, its supposed to help support you and your family while you actually look for work. When the bakery i worked at early this year closed its door, i filed for unemployment and recieved it while i was searching for a job. The week i decided to stop looking and be a stay at home mom, i stopped filing for it. I hate people who cheat assisstance programs. Its the same with mothers selling their WIC items, people on foodstamps who dont need them, etc. It hurts the system and make it harder for the people who actually need it to recieve it.

Answer #6

Like I have said in another post, I have to good to work, I have thousands of people living off the system that are depending on me.

Answer #7

how does the social security system work in the US? Here in Australia if you dont have a job the government still give u a income. We also get cheaper medicines and see doctors for free. You also recieve money if you have a disability and cant work. we get discounts on our electricity bills, and cheaper rent as well. Is it the same over there?

Answer #8

I would not hold this true for all, I have meet some people who love to work, and do not welcome handouts. I know unemployment is a great resource it used properly, I used it once about ten years ago for two weeks, but it is the people that ride out there unemployment and then there extension that bother me.
