Turning 18 question

Okay I’m turning 18 in about four months, and I dread living at my current home with my parents. Therefor I’m planning on moving in with my grandparents the day I turn 18; but I’m still in high school. I’ve been reading online and can’t seem to find the law about it in California. So if anyone has been through the situation I would really appreciate the help. Oh, also I wanted to take my belongings and some of the stuff my parents purchased, I’m I legally allowed to take the stuff they bought me or do I have to leave it with them, an example would be my laptop.

Answer #1

Well I think it should be fine to take the things they bought for you, because I’m living with my cousin and I took all the stuff my parents bought me. I mean since they bought it for you, then it’s yours to keep. So it should be fine to take the things.

Answer #2

Any gift bought for you is yours to keep. They cannot take it back. I am sorry that you don’t like living with your parents. You can choose to live with your grandparents if you want too. I wish you the best and wonder if you have talked to your parents about why you want to leave? Please go to college so that you can be financially independent one day. Keep your head up and pray. Don’t be like me–I went to college for nursing and quit in my senior year because of divorce issues and another pregnancy. My husband won’t let me return to college without a big fuss–which I try to avoid at all costs. He manipulates me with money. If he is mad at me, he threatens not to help me with the bills, etc. I wish I would have finished college and not have to depend on someone else.
