Teaching a class and verryy nervous.

Im teaching a fitness class this fall at my college, and im sooo nervous about it…

im really good socially… but im just nervous about interacting with my students. I reallyyy need some advice on how to calm my nerves…

also… im an education major… so being infront of people and teaching doesnt bother me… its just the anticipation of it… once im there ill be fine (I hope. lol0… but its july. the class doesnt start until september,.. and im just nervously anticipating it… also…if im in a traditional-school-setting im perfectly fine… most likely because there is a few year age difference, and the kids in school have a set of manorisms they usually follow. lol but with a fittness class its different… I dont wanna be their authority figure… I wanna be their friend… but I dont know how to do that.

I don’t know. Im just nervous that my students arent going to be social… I want them to feel comfortable and have a great time during my class, and I want everybody to be friendly with each other and talk and stuff.

but… a lot of the other instructers said that a lot of the time the people have a hard time opening up… so… I need some ways to get everybody comfortable with eachother, and to make them feel like their all friends. …and I also need a way to combat my nerves. lol

Some sureshot tips to help you calm down -

  1. Write down what you are planning to teach your students in the fitness class.
  2. Then stand in front of the mirror and practice speaking. Keep your hands folded so you dont get distracted. Its difficult but with a few sessions you will feel much more confident.
  3. The minute you feel conscious or nervous, just take a deep breath; count to 3 and slowly release breath and count to 6 while exhaling. This simple meditation technique will give you instant relaxation.

With a bit of practice you will gain more confidence and slowly start enjoying your teaching and student interaction. Do not worry about how your students will interact. Focus more on what you will be talking to them about. The success of your teaching will soon follow.
