How can i teach my dogs to roll over?
Tell your dog to roll over and help him with the motion. When he is upright give him a treat. Do this over and over again and then eventually he will do it by himself. Just make sure you keep rewarding him for some time after to keep him happy. After he gets used to it a simple pat will be reward enough.
Thanks :) by the way they’re both females…
lol, okay… wasn’t sure just didn’t want to put it… that really sounds bad.
First, you must teach you dog to lay down. I do this by bringing the treat down to the ground and not letting them get the treat till their stomach hits the ground. While repeating this trick make sure you clearly say “down” and if you like include a hand gesture meaning down (I put my hand straight out palm facing down and move it in a downward motion). After the dog has mastered “down” you can teach them roll over. It’s kinda tricky, you have to keep the dog laying down and then put your hands on both sides of the dog and physically roll him over while saying loudly and clearly “roll over”. This must be a fast action otherwise the dog will try to follow the treat in your hand and try to get up. The dog will not understand why your trying to flip him over and will probably resist, just keep at it. It’s all about repetition, eye contact and positive rewarding. Do not scold the dog for doing the trick incorrectly, just keep doing it over and over till the dog understands what you want. After a while you won’t have to roll the dog over, simply saying “roll over” will work. Again, I combine a hand gesture as well. Hand gestures as signals are cool because eventually you can just look at the dog and not say a word and do all kinds of tricks and such… Good luck!
A little dog you can help over, but a big dog, you can’t..
Teaching a big dog to play de.ad first, also helps (that way they’re already on their side)…then use the hand with the treat in it, to kinda “pull” them over…their head will follow the treat, and their bo.dy will follow the head.
Use LOTS of praise for each step, and the treat of course.
They actually learn this trick very quickly, if you use the steps….”Do.wn”….”de.ad”…”over”
Gad, this word filter is driving me crazy!!
look something up on youtube or something
