When you're talking on the phone is the government (or people) listening?

Answer #1

Yes, they know everything! It’s freaking ridiculous and scary!

Answer #2

Idk I would think not bc you r on a wireless network but I’m sure land line phones and the internet and stuff

Answer #3

The government can place a tap on your phone or listen to the calls directly from your telephone provider.

Answer #4

yes, they can. but it’s hard to keep tabs on millions of people. so they only listen in when they absolutely have to e.g. national security threat

Answer #5

The government has far better things to do than listen on calls from chatty housewives or silly teens. The only time they would be able to hear your call is if they place a tap on your phone, and the only reason they would do that is if there’s a threat or a federal crime being committed that they require evidence for.

Answer #6

Please try to answer serious questions with a serious answer.

Answer #7

For real all voice calls are being recorded so the government can trace any threat to you if you are involved directly or indirectly. Beware.

Answer #8

Echelon is a signal intelligence collection and analysis network that was formed during the cold war to intercept Soviet communications but has since been used to hunt for terrorism, crime, and reportedly for corporate espionage. It seems that they do use voice recognition to comb through millions of phone calls. Mentioning that your son or daughter “bombed” in their play or that your plan “blew up” could flag your call for further scrutiny. The “Patriot” Act (I don’t think this is the sort of thing true patriots would like) gave our government broad powers to monitor and investigate terrorism. Note that terrorism can be interpreted broadly. Peta, Greenpeace, and the Green party have been considered terrorist organizations. Under this they can listen to your conversations, without a court order, without your knowledge, and without scrutiny afterword. It is basically carte blanche to listen to anything they want.

Answer #9

Watched a documentary on that.

Answer #10

Here’s the link to the video I posted a while back at a similar question. James Bamford is former Navy Intelligence. He has written several books on the intelligence gathering methods of the NSA.

Answer #11

Yes!! Conspiracy! No, but seriously, anything going over the airways can be picked up in one way or another. And if you’re using a landline other people in the house can listen in by picking up another phone.
