What good would come if we stopped child labor?

I’ve looked at a million websites and none of them have ANY really statistic, real answers except “it will give the children an education”. Help?

Answer #1

Children would be able to enjoy their childhood, no child should ever have to work before they can even make sense at what they are saying. It’s just disgusting in my opinion.

Positives: -Children would be able to have a childhood and maybe a chance at an education. The reason I say maybe is that most countries where child labour is happening don’t provide education to children anyway. We are blessed to be able to go to school and learn. Some kids don’t have that. Negatives: -The children wouldn’t earn any money and die from starvation/dehydration. Even though they make next to nothing, it’s still all they have. The money they do make will buy them rice and maybe water. Some companies pay the kids in rice, in which case they wouldn’t have any rice.

  • Less money being made in big corporations that support child labour. This could cause riots and price fluctuations that could destroy the market.

I am against child labour. But you have to realize that if suddenly all child employing companies stopped making children work for them, those children would probably die.

No Rei, think about it this way. These children that have to work in these factories have no other choice. They either work or their families don’t have enough money to eat. The average child laborer lives in a home that’s about as big as your living room. They live with their mom, dad, two or three siblings, an aunt or uncle and probably a grandparent. All of these people must work to get the two to four dollars a day to buy the bag of rice to live.
Without child labor these children WOULD DIE. With child labor the family may get a bit of surplus and eventually may be able to send one of their kids to school to better their lives. It’s a two world scenario, either work to send a kid to school and keep some hope alive, or take their hope and let them die. Next think about the economic ramifications in the entire world if we had to pay people more because child labor fell through. Places like Target and Walmart would charge way more because their clothes and toys would cost so much more. Thus we would have a tripling in costs, people wouldn’t buy anywhere near as much and the entire world’s economy would be devastated.
What you must do is let the natural order of things progress, let the one kid of three in their situation get an education, then let their kids get education but we have to be realists and let them live with their hope, it is a necessary evil.

Answer #6

Child labor is important in various places in the word. You people from your developed world will not understand this , in your countries child labor should be heavily punished. In the third world to deny a child work is like taking away is livelihood, until and unless the country makes economic and social progression children are better off working than so called “ enjoying childhood “ where they will almost certainly die or turn into criminals !

Answer #7

Companies would actually have to pay better salaries which would in return increase the standard that people live.
