How do I stop tripping on my jump rope?

I don’t know what the problem is, but every time I use my jump rope I ALWAYS trip. Every time. Am I using the wrong kind of rope? Or is it too long or short? Am I just uncordinated? Any insight is great here.

Answer #1

It is nothing to do with the rope or its length… You need to concentrate,,, it is all about creating a rhythm with your body and mind… to make it possible, listen to your heart beat often…

Answer #2

It could be the length of the rope. You should hold a handle in each hand and stretch your arms right out to the sides. The rope should be a little longer than that. If it’s shorter- you will find yourself ducking when skipping which can lead to back problems. If it’s too long you may trip (so that could be the problem). When you skip, the rope should tick on the ground. It shouldn’t drag or flop. Try different sized and lengths in a shop to see if a different length is easier for you. it could also be uncoordination. Try listening to a song and clapping the rhythm or playing a simple 2-hand piece on the piano. Try throwing and catching a ball in your hand or juggling. If you can do these things you are probably not uncoordinated. You could try skipping to music to give you a beat to skip to, that may help.

Answer #3

Also make sure you are skipping on concrete, not grass.

Answer #4

it coukld be too short. Make sure when you stand on the center the rope ends come up to each armpit. If not if could be too short.

Answer #5

Get into a rythmn. It’s probably just you starting slow and then going too fast too quick or just jumping to fast. I find that singing while I jump rope helps me to not trip. Maybe it’s worth a try?

Also if that isn’t it, try shortening the rope a little bit and start slower.
