Would it be a sin to take a break from Christianity?

I’m not gonna stop believing( don’t stop, believing woah!!! gets punched) I just want to explore other religions and stuff to get more open minded ya know. I’m really interested in Buddhism but not enough to convert.

Answer #1

It’s not a sin to experience othe religions, but if you really were a christian, you wouldn’t “take a break”. Christianity, if you truly believe in it, is something you practice on a daily basis. As in, doing good deeds, worshiping God sometimes, praying, and simply believing. But feel free to explore. There’s no sin for exploring.

Answer #2

No, it is not a sin. In some people’s opinion it might be but a sin is just a way to caution you. It’s healthy and wise to see your options, if you’re interested explore and research however much you want. Religion is so powerful to some people, but here I am…I’m not religious…I’m not burning for it. I’m not suffering because I don’t believe or pray. You do what you want, and don’t let religion get in the way. It’s just a way of life, you can break free from it anytime.

Answer #3

You wouldn’t want a break…

Answer #4

If you truly believe that Jesus Christ is your Savior, then you won’t need to “take a break” from Christianity. But don’t pretend either, that’s blaspheming.

Answer #5

Are you asking me..? No, because i truly belive in God. There’s no break to it. If you believe, you should keep beliving and not have any reason to take a break. It’s not like i sit and pray 24/7. I don’t even pray once a day sometimes. But that doesn’t mean i’m breaking. I will always belive in God, therefore, i will never need to take a break.

Answer #6

We all slack off and steer away from time to time. Just remember that once you became a believer, the Lord says many times in the Bible “I will never leave you or forsake you”, so It would be good to stay in touch with God through prayer. He knows of the temptations the world presents to us

Answer #7

I think that whole “sin” idea was created by religious church groups and their priests or leaders. I don’t believe God/Source (or whatever name you choose) declares it a sin to explore your spirituality. I believe it is better to search out and form a true conviction within yourself of what you choose to believe in what you accept or reject…then just blindly follow what a human being said or wrote. I believe a higher power would also rather have you question, to learn within yourself what is true conviction rather then blind following.

Answer #8

One religion you might find interesting is Baha’i. Baha’i believe that all religions worship different aspects of the same God and that each messenger: Abraham, Moses, Zoroaster, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad etc. all brought the appropriate message from God to suit their time and place.

Answer #9

That sounds interesting…

Answer #10

If you’re a Christian, your desire is to be ‘more like Christ’ in your daily walk….so I’d never ‘take a break’ (too thankful for my many blessings and Salvation…..but ‘break’ is not a specific sin….everyones individual ‘Choice’….

Answer #11

i dont know if its a sin. if might or it might not. but im catholic and i i believe in god. i sometimes wonder if there is a religion out there that might be closer to my beliefs. Because im going to be honest i don’t believe in everything the church says

Answer #12

I’m not religious but from what I believe about the way Christianity should be, is, as long as you believe and keep your faith, don’t harm anyone else, and live an honest life, you’re free to research and try anything you feel like. Just because you want to find out more about other religions doesnt mean you’re cheating on your God, and he is supposed to be ‘all knowing’ so I guess he’d know exactly what you’re doing… in a good way.

Answer #13

the bible says if u were truly saved, u’d come back eventually by God’s grace. I wouldn’t it’s a wise thing to do, but I can’t and won’t force you to do anything u dont wanna. I fell away for 7 years, now God has brought me back by His grace. I was always His. I love Him more everyday

Answer #14

“I just want to explore other religions…to get more open minded…I’m really interested in Buddhism…”

No need to take a break for that. Lots of Christians have explored Buddhism and other spiritual traditions, as both students of religion and advocates of interfaith solidarity. For example, the contemplative Catholic monk Thomas Merton, about whom you can read on Wikipedia: http://funadvice.com/r/budam7k5jou

I am guessing this is all up to what you meen whit exploring. but sense you are thinking about taking a “break” then its probably not in the “okey zone” of exploring.

Its all about your why you would want to do this thing. have you read what Jesus answers the people in matthew?

matthew 22:36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.38 This is the great and first commandment.39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

you see its all about loving God whit all you heart, soul and mind. how awesome is that? its about love! do you love God whit all your heart?

you see if you don’t love God, then Christianity is boring. But if you love Him then its a totally different story. Examine yourself, do you love Him? for real, if not then pray to God and beg for forgiveness and also pray for love for God is amazing and gives us love to Him!

you can explore other religions for getting more knowledge about them so that you can be an more effektiv and understanding christian. But only if you dont think you are in danger of being affected by them. and jugging from the question I would say you are not right now ready for this.

you cant check them out just because you find them interesting. that would be like being married to beautiful wife and still want to check out other girls. Dont do that! God deserves all your love. He loves you and He is ALL you need :)

love to God is what is all about, if God and Christianity dose not exite you enough then you are doing it wrong. Ask yourself, if you are saved and realy born again. I hope i dont sound angry or harsh. cuz i am not but this is very serious. LOVE!
