What are the side effects of Prozac?

The doctor wants to put me on prozac..I’m not depressed or anxious, but I am underweight and she says that somehow it could help me gain weight and not be so picky about food textures (Im very sensitive to texture and that makes it hard for me to eat a lot of things) and I also think that she suspects I’m depressed, even though i am very obviously not depressed if anyones ever met me and even my therapist says I am certainly not depressed. I want to know how this would affect me because honestly I don’t really trust it right now…

Fluoxetine- or Prozac- is a very strong anti-depressant used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic attacks, etc. But some common side affects are insomnia, nausea, headaches, anxiety, loss of appetite, and dry mouth….don’t take medication without a good reason…

Answer #3

Well the loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and upset stomach certainly wouldn’t help me lol.. thank you :) I’d really like to hear from people who have taken it before though. I’m scared it would alter my thinking or make my emotions go numb or something :L

Answer #4

See, I don’t think I really have a reason to be on prozac. I don’t like my current doctor very much but my mom trusts any medical person so she doesn’t understand why I’m concerned :S

Answer #5

its an anti depressant, not that im encouraging you to take it, but all that it would likely do is make you VERY hyper active for a few hours while your body filters it out of your blood..

Answer #6

So would it make me feel weird? I don’t want it to affect my emotions or anything, because I’m not axious or depressed or OCD…Im actually one of the calmest, happiest people I know and I wouldnt want anything to change that…

Answer #7

Maybe you should go to another doctor for a second opinion. A know alot of people who have been on fluoxetine and some of them had side effects and others found it really helpful so it really depends on the person.

Answer #8

Every person reacts differently. There is absolutely no way to know without trying it. It didnt work well with me, but it obviously does help some people. Check with another doctor. But know that just because dru.gs are recommended for certain types of disorders does not mean they cannot be helpful in other situations.

Answer #9

i have taken it, and their is possible side affects wich they listed above, but honestly i had no side effects were all different but i dont think it’ll be something serious if you happen to feel anything, good luck :)

This is my experience from it. At first I didn’t feel anything for like two days. Then I noticed that my energy levels had gone up and also everything was more interesting. Like all the colors seemed more saturated. You could go to a grocery store and lol because all the boxes and items seemed so colorful. This only lasted for like a week. At the same time I noticed I became a light sleeper. Hard to fall asleep and if something woke me up I could not get back to sleep. So much for the energy levels because then I was tired from not sleeping good. I also lost appetite for a couple of weeks but then it normalized. Now here is the most sucky side effect. You will not have any or*gasm for awhile. It trashed my sex life. You will feel like it is going to happen and then just when it feels like is going to start it goes away. This lasted a good six months until I trained myself to listen to my body. After six months I noticed that I became totally numb. Nothing seemed extremely happy or extremely sad. Just the same numbness about everything. You will not cry at movies or laugh hysterically at jokes. So after a few years of this I decided with my doctor to switch to something different. Now I am on Wellbutrin XL and is awesome! No numbness and a good thing is that you feel energetic and I have lost like 20 pounds. I have been on it for about a year. But something that it does is that it makes you nervous or kind of paranoid around people a little bit.
