Shoulder Labral Tear & MRIs

Have any of you experienced having an MRI not show any labral damage in your shoulder, but then later found out that there was a labral tear or other damage?

I had this happen with both of my hips, and a friend of mine had it happen with his shoulder, and now I’m having shoulder problems, and the doctor says that the MRI is very sensitive and would show it if there was a problem with the labrum, but I know that labral tears don’t always show…

It turned out that it was my rotator cuff tendon causing problems, as it was frayed. I had surgery a couple of months ago, and it’s doing much better. :)

Haven’t had that happen to me but thankfully, the worst thing that’s happed to me injury wise over the years was falling off the roof while helping my dad replace the shingles. I landed on a pile of them & got stuck with a nail, but nothing broken.

If your insurance coverage will allow it, far, far better to get a second opinion than to risk geting a more serious injury by believing the one doctor who might not have been correct. Doctors, like people, certainly do make mistakes.

Hope your shoulder gets better.
