Should he be allowed to serve ?

President Obama stated the Daschle situation made it appear there were 2 sets of rules - one for privileged, one for normal Americans - Why should treasury secretary Timothy Geithner, having the same Ethical problem, failing to pay taxes, be allowed to serve ?

Answer #1

I think Dasgal should own up to what he did. I’m not sure what to make of him.

Answer #2

Daschle waited until after the nomination to pay…the other guy tackled the issue before the nomination.

So, clearly, Daschle messed up & made it seem like he was going to ignore the issue UNTIL it became a matter of public scrutiny…the other guy did not.

:)

Answer #3

Do we feel remorse BECAUSE we get caught, or is their conviction to do it right the first time? I have had a row with Daschle ever since he went sour during the Western Governors’ Conference in Jackson, Wyoming a few years ago. He went completely 180 and haven’t trusted him since. When you get caught in a lie, it takes a long time to build trust. It is so much easier to keep what you have, than try to get back something you’ve lost.

Answer #4

do you mean “why should a man who doesn’t pay taxes be allowed to serve?”

I just can’t really understand your question.

But a man who doesn’t pay taxes shouldn’t be allowed to serve.

Answer #5

I’m not positive of the whole story, but from what I’ve heard I think they should find someone else.

Answer #6

When living in the public eye, especially when this is a position of such high profile as this, one would hope that their house is in order. Sure people make mistakes and as such should be allowed the forgiveness that is warranted. The fact that he waited until after the nominaiton and just say,”whoops, I forgot” is a bit sketchy and I would really not put my trust in him were it my finances.
