What is better for you: running a short distance or walking a long distance?

Answer #1

Neither, that’s why the wheel was invented .. haha

I think walking a long distance.

It’s like going on a crash diet, you lose a lot in the first week or two but then put it all back on again.

Slow but sure is always the best method.

Well, running is often bad for the knees and while its a good cardio workout it doesnt do much for muscle work while walking… Well, we have a bunch of neighbors on our street who walk everymorning every day and have for years now, And they are still just as fat as when the started. Id recomend a sort of off and on worout. running for 3 min, walking for a minute, sprinting for a minute, walking for 2 to 3 min, jogging backwards, ect. ect. At least thats what my friends trainer taught her and shes lost over 30 lbs. Hope that helps, Although you really dont need to lose weight at all:P just saying:)

It depends what you are trying to achieve. If you are training to do the 100 metre sprint in the Olympics it is running a short distance that is best, . But if you are training to compete in the Olympic Walking event, it is walking a short distance that is best. . If you are unfit & overweight and want to lose weight it is walking a long distance (as briskly as your heart and lungs will allow); . If you are fit but underweight and want to build up your lower body strength e.g. to improve your speed and lower your centre of gravity to enable you to play better soccer, the go for running a short distance. . If you fancy a pint of beer and the nearest hostelry is 20 miles away, then walking a long distance is best; but if the nearest hostelry is just down the road and they have already rung last orders, I would go with the sprinting. .

Answer #5

Swimming is far better for you than running or walking, it tones every muscle in your body and.. builds your stamina much quicker.

Answer #6

My take is that you should do what you enjoy. If you enjoy your exercise you are more likely to do it consistently. For me bicycling is the activity I most enjoy.

Answer #7

I think walking a long distance, if you ran it will tire you out, but if you work on it everyday you can run a longer distance. Just slowly build up to it :)

Answer #11

Depends on your weight. If a person is rather heavy or if they have an issue with the spine or the joints in their legs, then running is bad. Anyone who has medical problems there, like for example a herniated vertebral disc or a problem with their knees as well as overweight people should walk.

If you are light, and do not have such health issues, then I would choose running. Running will burn more calories.
