baptist isnt true… i used to be one… as a baptist it says you can drink wine in the bible but its a sin to get wasted.

Answer #5

Alcohol seems to be discouraged rather than prohibited among Southern Baptists.

The worst I was ever flamed online was from my comments about a Southern Baptist wedding I was roped into helping with.

After photographers spent hours taking pictures outside and in the church the actual ceremony took about 2 minutes. Then came the reception; no alcohol and no dancing. Everyone just stood around bored. The best man gave them a “toast” and made some off-color jokes about the honeymoon night that nobody thought was funny but managed to embarrass a lot of people.

The next day I posted a request asking that if I’m ever forced to go to another Southern Baptist wedding that someone please kill me.

The next day my mailbox was full of flames.

The most coherent email pointed out that this was the most important day of that couple’s life and I was disappointed that I didn’t get to get drunk and grope women. Sounds about right; he makes it sound like that would be a bad thing.

HAH that made me laugh… awesome! but to be honest, i dont know much about southern baptist, just northern… but that is really funny, and the ending is true.. what else can you do at a wedding if your not the groom or bride?

Answer #7

All sects of Islam and most Protestant Christians (including Mormons, Pentecostals, Methodists, Rastafari and some Baptists) prohibit alcohol consumption. Buddhism also discourages alcohol consumption but for different reasons.

The more traditional Christian religions (Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran and Anglican), few Protestants (some Baptists, Jehovah’s Witness and reformed Christians), Judaism and Confucian philosophy all allow consumption without debauchery (In other words, it’s okay as long as you don’t get drunk).

Hinduism does not condone nor prohibit consumption but does warn against drunkenness.

Traditional Christians (non-Protestants named above) actually require consumption of wine during certain religious events and many Jews are actually encouraged to get drunk during certain religious celebrations.
