What sort of jobs could I get with a BA in psychology?
If I went to a CSU (a california state college) and recieved my BA in psychology then what type of places could I get a job?
My daughter has a BS in Psychology and has worked with the county and the state in the Dept. of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. She has worked directly with clients that had mental retardation problems, and presently works to arrange and co-ordinate programs and resources for those same citizens. It’s a rewarding and challenging job which she loves.
Generally many of the more interesting careers in psychology require an advanced degree (master’s or doctorate).
My first girlfriend was planning on being a psychiatric nurse. That is one career that doesn’t require an advanced degree but of course you do have to go to nursing school as well.
I was talking about psychology with my auntie ( who is a teacher) and she says there isn’t enough jobs for this. Lots of people take pyschology in university and theres simply not enough jobs for everyone.
Although places that take pyschologists are;
-Schools/Colleges for drop in centres -The NHS, or a healthcare service -Police- although this takes a “crimal pyscholgist” major not just general -Sports
The list is endless as no matter were you are people are always going to need help
Honestly a bachelors in psychology is a little limited. You cant actually practice therapy without a masters in counseling or a phd in psychology/counseling or a psyd. You could become a research assistant (although these jobs arent exactly abundant and not that well paid), you could be an advisor at a college, a teacher at the high school level, you may be able to find some sort of work at a health care place or a university. I’d honestly suggest getting your masters (at the very least) if it is possible. A lot of people in my class work full time at the university I go to and take a few classes at night. The classes are free if you work at the school, and the options after that become a lot more open.
