Pointless to try to re-teach things to alzheimers patient?

I take care of a lady with alzheimers. she cant rememebr how to do things like buckling her seatblelt, preparing a meal, matching clothes etc. I just wondered if its possible to re-teach her or if she’s just incapable of being able to retain information like that.

Answer #1

hey, my grandad had alziemers, and as sad as it is, the detiriation of the brain, looses that person the ablity to do those tasks we would think are simple.

Answer #2

I work in a nursing home. there is really no hope. as sad as it is it will only get worse. you will only drive yourself nuts if you try to make her normal.

Answer #3

They lose access to a certain part of the brain, and I’m not sure how capable they are of learning things that would be stored in that part of the brain.

Different parts of the brain store different information, which is why Alzheimer’s patients will forget things like their name and where they live, but they don’t forget how to walk. If you could possibly try to teach her these things in a way that would store the information in a part of her brain she still has access to, it should work. The trick would be trying to figure out what works for her and how to relate what you want to teach into a way that she can understand.

Did that make any sense? Sorry it was confusing.
