Why do people care about life so much?

I mean, why do people even care so much that they live long lives and amass as much wealth as they possibly can? I find it strange how people waste their day-to-day happiness for most of their lives, just for a few years at the end of their life to be proud of their accomplishments while they’re already sickly and old. The facts confuse me, and I was wondering if someone could enlighten me as to the “other side of the coin”.

All I can do is speak for me..maybe it in part depends on how you were raised being a large part of happiness..I was saved at the age of 9..experienced His amazing grace and blessings in very tangible/real ways then and since..I’m not super-rich but indeed rich in many ways,thus for the majority of days/certainly not all..human with faults like anyone else, I am happy & really enjoying life..I think I might put as (maybe only a Christian can understand) I’m able to be at ease knowing I have been given the gift (offered to all) & have that blessed assurance….

because to feel proud of yourself is such a powerful and satisfying feeling that many will never get to reach. live is a gift, like if someone gives you a flower, yeah you have to take care of it to make sure it stays pretty but you enjoy seeing it so beautiful … lol make sense?

The get to look back on all they’ve done and see their accomplishments.

The get to look back on all they’ve done and see their accomplishments. They get to be proud of what they’ve done and they get a chance to share their wisdom with their children/grandchildren so that they can/may have easier lives. They can also live the last of their time in comfort and pass on their accumulated wealth to their descendants.

Ah, the descendants part is what I haven’t been thinking about. I’m almost sure, even at my age, that I don’t want children. Pride is the main thing that confuses me, though. It may be the inner sociopath speaking, but doesn’t pride just seems like an annoying blind spot?
