Why does orange juice mixed with alcohol sort of block out the taste?

Answer #1

Orange juice is really acidic, and has sort of a bitter taste, over powering the taste of alcohol.

Answer #2

i think any alcoholic drink mixed with something blocks out the taste, if you want to taste all of it then just drink it straight. i think that orange juice frozen a bit mixed with vodka tastes good :)

Answer #3

The tastes in the two may clash slightly if you have a bitter juice, meaning that the juice will make the alcohol taste better. If you use a sweetended juice, as most ones in cartons are, then it could be the opposite and the sugariness which which block out the alcohol slightly, like in alcopops. It will sweeten up the taste of the alcohol and make it taste better to drink.

Answer #4

At a New Years party, my sister drank whiskey with orange juice, coke cola, and water. She claims it tasted good and most of the alcoholic taste was not noticeable. So yes, the amount of juice you mix in the alcoholic beverage, determines if you will be able to taste the alcoholic taste as much.
