What is your opinion on Little Miss pageants for children under 1 years old through ages 5?

I personally dont ever believe i would put my little girl in them, everytime i watch the shows these young girls are already so concerned with their bodies and appearance, it just doesnt seem like a healthy environment.

Drives me nuts. I think it’s mostly for the parents. Trying to fulfill some dream of theirs, and using the kids as pawns. Once in awhile, you see a kid who actually enjoys it. But from the episodes of that crap I was subjected to watch by a friend, I can tell you, most of the kids were miserable. And the parents were the excited ones, coaching them and investing in it. I call it narcissism.

i think its crazyy and wrong but when you put it on tv it makes for a great comedy!!! http://funadvice.com/r/3k6vqio00v

I think it’s preposterous. We set our children up in shows wearing make-up and sexual outfits, then complain that they develop an eating disorder. Kids get enough pressure from TV and just normal, average kids at school. They don’t need to be brought up in a world where the beautiful girl comes first. It’s teaching them from the youngest age possible that if you are not pretty, you loose. As Dada said, it’s 99% of the time the parent’s doing. I think it’s to make up for the parent’s lack of confidence in their own physical appearance. These days parents do live though their kids- They meet their friends through school fundraisers and soccer games, they spend hours sewing costumes and baking cookies so that their kid can be the best/top student in everything. It makes me sick when you hear about parents putting 6y/o’s in corsets and 7y/o’s on strict diets. 8y/o’s being forced to run 5 miles a day when their bones aren’t actually formed properly yet. Personally, I think the whole practice of child-beauty-pageants should be banned.

Answer #4

I think it’a cute. Everyone wants to believe that their child is cute, cuter than other people’s children.

Answer #5

Gives me the creeps….All I can think is that there two types of people watching those kinds of shows (that one they have on TLC)…is mama’s who think it’s “cute”, and pedophyles…

Answer #8

I think its a horrible idea . Its something thats drives me crazy . What if the little girl doesnt win ? They are so young that winning and loosing is such a big deal to them .

Answer #9

I think it depends on how far the parent takes it. I was only in one pageant when I was 1 or 2 yrs. old. I think it is fine to enter a 1-5 yr. old in some pageants if you think your child is just naturally beautiful and want to show your offspring off. lol. But I don’t think it is right when they enter them for the money, because they think their child is better than every other child, or if they keep pushing them. Like the parents that push them to win and make their child feel like if they don’t win something is wrong with them or they are not pretty enough if they don’t win. The TV shows like “Toddlers in Tiaras” are horrible. Parents spoil their kids, push them too hard, and give them fake tans, fake teeth, fake hair, and dress them in clothes that should be worn on a young adult or adult. Some even dance like they are dancing for men, and the parents taught them how, or hired someone to teach them.

Answer #10

my opinion is,that parents want there child to win because of the money….and its spoiling the childs look slapping make up on them and wrecking there hair :/ most children fake the smile you see on the camera just to please there Mother

its sad….

Answer #11

I find it sickening. Children aren’t their for their parent’s sick display.

In my opinion the parents who do that to their child are insecure and messed up their own lives.

Plus a child that young should not be worried about their appearance at all.
