OCD ?

Am I suffering from a mild case of OCD? I can’t drink from a bottle that someone else has drunk out of, or a glass, anything like that. Before I make myself a drink I have make sure the glass is completely clean. I can’t let anyone touch my food and I can’t eat anyone else’s food. I hate eating in restaurants and if ever food is being made for me I have to watch it being made and make sure everything is clean. I see dirt that nobody else sees if that makes any sense? I’m really paranoid about it.

probobly not so just dont really worry to much about it

Answer #2

Actually you can take medication for OCD… but I’m not a huge fan of medication and I’d recommend therapy before meds… you have to do the therapy anyways because the meds arent going to work on their own…

Answer #3

I did mean a therapist yes. I’m pretty sure you can’t really take any medication for this? I’ve always been like this but these past few months it’s became much worse.

Answer #4

No one is suggesting medication… when she talked about a doctor, I believe she meant a therapist… and yes kids often go through this phase when they’re younger (5-9), but it is unusual when they’re over that age…

Answer #5

I don’t think this is a sign of OCD. Lots of people are like this. My daughter couldn’t eat anything but ‘clean’ food - no gravy - and had to have nothing touching on the plate. She grew out of it and so will you. You don’t need a doctor - don’t medicalize yourself.

Answer #6

Yes it does make sense… and disorders cant be diagnosed online, but yes I’d say you had classic OCD signs… but it’s only a disorder if it bothers you and/or it is dysfunctional…

Answer #7

Yeah I suppose it does bother me. My friends think im really strange and sometimes they forget and make me a drink and I can’t drink it. Sounds pathetic but I feel really bad! What should I do? Should I see a doctor?

Answer #8

It doesn’t really get in the way of anything I suppose but it is really annoying! I also do little things like sometimes if I’m walking somewhere and I touch a lamppost or a wall I have to touch it another 2 times.. Weird I know :S I also have to shower twice a day and if I don’t I get really anxious and it becomes all I think about untill I actually shower. I also get really nervous and stumoch pains if I leave it too long.. I don’t know I guess I just have to deal with the anxiety.. Thanks for all of your help! x

Answer #9

It does seem like you have something! I do weird things too… like on the microwave, the last number can’t be a 5 or a 0. And my closet is color coordinated, and when I eat like fruit loops or something, I have to eat them in order (rainbow). Also, When I’m not walking in dirt, I count my steps… when I can’t do it, I feel horrible, like I’ll get stomach aches and everything! It drives me crazy!!! I think you have a strong fear of germs and sicknesses… but it also could be OCD!!!

Answer #10

It’s not pathetic… It’s not fun having to deal with something people dont understand. If it is getting in the way of your life, then yes you should see a doctor… From personal experience, the only way to get over it is to stop the behaviors… And that’s what they are going to tell you… Unfortunately there’s no magic cure here… You just have to deal with the anxiety (which is not a nice feeling) and do it… the more you avoid, the more your behaviors are reinforced, and so the cycle continues…
