The Mayans supported themselves by using slash- and-burn agriculture 2.The vegetation was cut down and burned to clear the land and provide nutriments for the soil, which was then planted with crops, especially corn, beans and squash. 3.they cleared large sections of tropical rain forest and, where groundwater was scarce, building size able underground reservoirs for the storage of rainwater.
