How would table salt work on ice?

All the snow here has melted now, and I can’t test this out for myself… but I was wondering something. When you have ice and snow on the ground and you put salt down it melts it… what would happen if you put table salt down on the ice/snow? Would it melt it the same way?

Answer #1

Yes it does.

The molecular formula of water is H2O, and salt is NaCl. The two substances mix and produce:

NaOH and HCl. This is an exothermic reaction, ie releases heat…hence melting the ice! :D

Answer #2

Yes. Lol… Its the same thing. Xo:)

Answer #3

I don’t know yes it works on ice cubes anyway I just tryied it.
