First thing…put every thing you don’t want chewed up out of reach! I’ve never had a problem with chewing because I’ve always kept a “Dog Box” in the living room…and I watch constantly to ensure that my dog isn’t getting things out of closets etc. Gate them into what ever room you are in, and give them things that are “theirs”…if they get something that isn’t…make a “trade” (dogs LOVE trades)…say “trade” and take what they have, and give them something is is theirs.

Keeping a box full of different items, different shapes and textures also keeps their interest…pic of the “Dog Box”.

hi, I know how you feel we have 2 jack russells they are both still puppies but they will chew anything and everything if we left them for any length of time, we are just realising just how much time and effort that needs to be put in ,at the end of the day I feel more worn out than when my son was little, but we love them so we will persist, does anyone know what we can give the older jack( hes 8 months) to play with we have tried everything even a leather rugby ball which was destroyed in 10 mins, if we give him hide bones he is very posesive and growls if I go near him and has bitten me, this means the little one only 14 weeks cannot have any toys because the older one takes them off her and destroys them.

A dog is a reflection of there owner. Sounds to me the dog has no structure in it’s life. It takes time and patience to train a dog. You need to use treats when the dog is doing something you want it too and to use correction when it is not. But you cannot get angry or mad. The dog can feel you engery long before you even know what you are feeling. Stay calm, and be persistant about what you want. I do recommend Ceasr Millan books or watching him on Tv. Or even Victoria Stillwells on animal Planet “Me or the Dog” But honestly the dogs only do what you ask of them.

thank you guys so much, and yes they get to run around outside everyday, but the one dog is veryyy hard to control.

Answer #5

Sounds like your dogs are bored. You probably need to give them more structured activities, such as walking. Did you know that you should walk a dog for two 45min walks EVERYDAY minimum?!! That’s why I have cats, haha!

Answer #6

You can’t MAKE a dog do anything because it’s not a human!, It can’t udnerstand thigns like we can.. What kind of dog is it? If it’s a puppy then it’s pretty legitimate to be chewing on everything because it’s teething, but if it’s an older dog you might want to take it to a pet store and do like training lessons with it. <– Pretty expensive.. And if having the dog around is such a big problem,. get rid of it. You obviously have enough time to ignore the problem your dog has if your on here posting questions on HOW to fix the problem, when you could be next to your dog trying to help it comprehend shyt.

Unfortunate, thats where your wrong (well, your attitude is wrong as well. but thats a different story) Dogs can understand what they are taught, and they can interpret things you say to them and repeat it with their actions. I have 2 dachsunds, they are notorious for chewing and digging;. Well, we dont give them the opportunity to dig. but they will chew ANYTHING!!! My coaster set for my livingroom, a $ 50 bill that I have NO IDEA how they got ahold of that. they take things off of our refridgerator!!! And then chew them up!! I have come to call my little boy (see my profile pic) the Doxinator!! Several questions—how old are they.what breed, are they obedience school drop outs or flunkies?? Having dogs is like having little children in the house and having to baby proof everything There are a bunch of people in a group here (I also belong) called For the Love of Our Dogs—u could put in a request to join and be in within a couple of days and there are several breeders and trainers in the group. Someone in there should be able to help you out better than I can and even unfourtunate in all of his/her infinite wisdom!! Good Luck!! Keep everything up on shelves, countertops, and cabinets until you can get in!! lol ; D
