my children need a foundation... what do I do??

I was raised LDS, however I have since strayed from that. I have my own set of beliefs but I feel it is important to have a spirtual foundation for my family and children. I long for the “belonging to something” that I found in the LDS church. But I don’t nessisarily believe it. I just moved into a neighborhood that is primarily LDS and I want to get to know the neighbors and become involved but I don’t know how to do that with out going to church. However, I don’t want to go to the LDS church and have my children learn a life style I don’t belive or I don’t live. I really want to have a community to belong to for support for myself and my children. But there are specific things I don’t believe in that I have found in most christian religions and I don’t know what religion I will find it in can someone help me?? I don’t believe in baptising a baby I think babys are perfect I don’t think they are born in sin. I don’t believe that if you are not “saved” your going to hell. I don’t think it is just black and white and I think god is merciful. Also I believe that god the father, jesus and the holy spirit are 3 seperate beings and I also bleive in the bible. But not the book of morman. I currently live with my boyfried and my 4 kids I know most religions would find that unexceptable but I don’t. Is there a perfect fit for me?

Yes, I’m sure you’ll find a place where you feel at home - but it may take some searching. And the nearest physical church building might not be located close to where you live.

That said, I can understand your wish not to become too closely linked with your local LDS community - you have too much experience and too many feelings involved. This is NOT to say anything against the many LDS who are probably involved in funadvice - only that it doesn’t seem to be the right faith for you.

I wonder if you might not want to look into a group that a deeply religious but non-sectarian friend of mine feels has the right approach.

They’re called Unity Church (not Unitarian - that’s different) and you can find information on them at

www.bible.ca/cr-Unity.htm www.unitychurch-spacecoast.com/beliefs.html

and several other sites that will come up if you google for Unity Church

As far as I can see from what I’ve read and what my friend has explained, they are very open and loving, non-judgemental, and they emphasize the joys of life and of being happy together with other people. They also have some very sensible ideas about health and the importance of self-healing.

I wish you all the best!

You might want to look into a unitarian universalist church. They are very community oriented without all the dogma of most organized religion. In fact it is barely a religion in the traditional sense at all, as they welcome everyone, even athiests. My sister-in-law and her husband are both athiest, and they are very involved in their congregation.

There are non denominational christian churches that might work for you. I belong to one (im not a christian) and it works great for me. Just need to find the right fit…

Answer #4

Just remember that we as imperfect human beings can only find our perfect fit by us conforming to God’s will and not the other way around. Its hard, I know, however you can do it. You may be wondering if I am a mormon or not, and I am. But I have grown up going to school at a catholic middle and high school, and served my mission in korea so I have gained a great respect for the teaching and lifestyles of other cultures/religions, even those not Christian. Both my parents are converts to the church and I have loved growing up in it. It has helped me so much to come closer to God in every way. If I could be so bold, try the Church one more time, when you are ready. And if in the end you find it still isnt for you, then let the Bishop of your ward area know, and he can make sure that you can be more comfortable!

throw a neighborhood BBQ to get to know the neighbors. as for the spiritual part maybe you should question why you don’t believe some of the teachings of the LDS church. Search, ponder, and prey. I’m sure you know that old shtick! Sometimes one of the best things we can do for ourselves is realize that just because we don’t like something doesn’t make it wrong. Best of luck to ya
