How to tell if a person has Multiple Personality Disorder?

Can can body tell how to if a person has MPD ???

Answer #1

MPD Multiple Personality Disorder also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder. There has been so many skeptics about this disorder. With a lot of the Hollywood version of MPD (movies) along with False Memory Syndrome it’s been so hard for victims/patients to accept the diagnoses.

Most patients/victims don’t show any symtoms of the disorder as people judge them with mental illness or they fear to be judged. They hide the disorder as though it’s part of their routine or everyday living. One minute a person could be dressed differently along with voice change or just found wondering and not remembering how they got at a certain place. Most of the time a patient could have memory lapse or lost of time meaning hours or even days.

Most of the victims have a history of sexual abuse however I’m not saying that all MPD diagnoses are related to sexual abuse. People who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder sometimes have the same symptoms as MPD/DID.
If a person was sexually abused as a child/teen and are now adults and have been diagnosed with MPD/DID they can get free counselling from Date/Rape Crisis Centers. Date/Rape Crisis Centers are for victims of past/present sexual abuse. Be very careful of what you read on the internet on MPD/DID however there is books available at the library on MPD/DID.

Again I would suggest that you see a doctor to be referred by someone who is reputable in the area of MPD/DID and who is willing to work with that person. Psychotherapist can refer a patient to social services to have some of the sessions paid for. However depending on your area I would suggest to call and find out what the fee is and how many sessions would be paid for. Counselling for this diagnoses can take years depending on the number of personalities and eventually intergrating them as one. Again it’s a very long process, I’ve worked with many victims of sexual violence and it’s never easy for the victim to come forward, as trust is usually the biggest issue.

Hope this helps

Dear johncenababygirl, MPD is very rare, very rare but there are several other disorders that are similar in ways. If she is having problems and others are seeing it as some type of disorder then she really needs to go to a clinic. Find a free one in your area or go to the school counsellor. Sue…good luck

Answer #3

Sue is right, as usual. MPD (now called DID - dissociative identity disorder) is extremely rare and has been overdiagnosed to the point that now it’s hard for those with the real deal to get help.

It’s very important that a professional rule out all other physical problems first. Then someone will have to rule out all other psychiatric disorders. It can be a difficult process.

Please do not base your judgments by what you’ve heard or seen on TV. These accounts have been sensationalized and have little therapeutic value if any.

One of the easiest tests I’ve seen is to watch whether the person is attention-seeking. That’s a completely different disorder. The multiple I know went to great lengths to prevent anyone from knowing the truth.

Whatever happens, I wish you guys the best.

well for one thing they will talk to them self

Answer #5

They’d have to be diagnosed by a doctor.

I guess you could find some symptoms on the internet, but is you’re not specialized in mental health.. I wouldn’t try to diagnose a person. Bring them to some one who is specialized in mental health and see if they can help.
